Have to purchase backboard mounting kit... otherwise product doesn't come with necessary mounting hardware. Instructions are not clear but assembly loosely so fix mistakes before tightening. Recommend studying instructions before attempting to assemble
This kit contains a ton of hardware. I used it to mount the new backboard to an existing adjustable pole setup. There is hardware for a rooftop mount, wall mount, and pole mount.
It worked perfectly. They are very happy with the results and my son couldn't have mounted the backboard without the kit.
Just put up today. Attached to garage and was fairly easy. Delivery was a few days longer than expected but that was Fedex not seller.
While the strength is yet to be really tested, this kit was a "joy to behold"! [the writer is an active 72 year old systems engineer by trade - who did the install by himself - yes, i saw that was not recommended - and i am not recommending for anyone. but i got it done and it would have been totally impossible were the product not so well designed] the only reason i did not mark 5 stars was the design of the backboard "slots" combined with the one instruction deficiency. the slots should be longer, more narrow [and maybe strengthened] or a larger head carriage bolt provided. This is complicated by the instructions not making clear how the diagonals are connected [braces are shown - but make it appear the braces have something to do with the slots]. so, would i do it again? you bet! [and i would make sure my wife was not home to see me on a ladder with the backstop in hand!]
We installed this unit on top of our garage roof. The unit itself is great but 1/ terrible directions; 2/ no plan or provision for going over a gutter if it borders the roof without building a platform; 3/ no way to adjust the height of the unit if installed on a roof top. So you need to be okay with whatever height your roof is unless (and to span a gutter) unless you build a kind of platform, which is what we ended up doing.
Dont even try to mount a Lifetime hoop without this kit. I thought I could get buy with a universal mounting kit from another company was I ever wrong. If you get a Lifetime hoop you will need this kit to mount it regardless of how or where you are mounting it. Save yourself the trouble get this before you try to mount your hoop you will be glad you did.
This bracket has three configurations: pole mount, wall mount, and roof mount. I did the wall mount. This bracket has many parts, and it took me the better part of three hours to figure it all out from the instructions and diagrams. I am a seasoned handyman, and I suspect less experienced assemblers may not have the patience. It is a good product once assembled. You can't attach the backboard with a cresent wrench. you'll need a rachet and a vice grips. Once the bracket is attached to the wall, I recommend hanging up the backboard to the bracket with some baling wire before attempting to thread the two large bolts through the holes. The backboard gets heavy quickly while holding it up on a ladder. Definitely a two person job.
The "Universal" Kit was not Universal it did not come close to lining up with the backboard holes or the Rim. I had to modify the kit and the backboard to get it to work
No parts labeling, and almost no instructions, just a couple of poor quality pictures. It took two of us (a science teacher and a NASA engineer) to finally figure out how to put the mount together. We are still not sure it is put together correctly.
