My grandkis love malt o meal hot cerial. great with a side of bacon, scrambled eggs and buttered toast. Started 20 years ago when I showed them what the three bears were eating when golielocks came to visit
Very nutritious cooked cereal -- easy to make and is delicious, especially with some GV brown sugar. This is an extremely economical way to feed self and family. I make packets ahead of time so I can cook the cereal in the busy morning with minimum fuss. For single serve, My packets are all the dry ingredients: 1/3 cup meal, 2 TBs instant milk, 2 tsp sugar, and a few raisins. I use GV fold top baggies with a twisty tie then store them in my cabinet until ready to use. I make in the microwave with a large micro-safe bowl. All I add is 1 and 2/3 cup cold water. Mix then microwave 1 min. Stir, Microwave 44 sec, stir, microwave 33 seconds and repeat until done. YUMMY! Makes GREAT dinner muffins that serve well also as a breakfast when in a rush, especially when made with milk. Only down side is big jump in price. But boy oh boy, sure beats cold cereal for price and nutrition.
Such a yummy hot cereal, full of rich wheat flavor. Cooks on stove top in 1-2 minutes. So good you can even eat it without sugar, or say, just a ripe banana, if you're trying to watch those HA1C's. For a real treat, cook it with raisins %26 throw on a pile of wheat germ %26 a tablespoon of ground flax when serving. Go Minnesosta.
Recently bought this cereal and it is by far my favorite. I make a double portion for myself and realistically speaking, I could probably eat even more, but I do limit myself. It's easy to prepare and within a few minutes you have a nice breakfast. Highly recommend!
Malt O Meal is my comfort food when everything else sounds gross or if I am sick or I want something hot and sweet with a little bit of texture... YKIYK It lacks the gluey clumpy weird texture of oatmeal. I keep that for cookies... The cooking method can be tricky if you are head first kind of person and don't adhere to directions well as I am. You must use a deep bowl or container if you microwave this. If you don't cook it as instructed which is tedious but doable it will overflow and it is so hard to clean up. Cook it for 1 minute then stir and every 15-30 second after cook then stir as instructed on box. If you stove cook this or use a pot camping or whatever, keep the heat down and stir a lot and put a wooden spoon across your pot to keep it from boiling over. Nifty trick that works for all liquids so far. Add butter and sugar or whatever you like and when it is cool enough ENJOY
This is a great winter cereal. My son loves this during the cold winter months. He goes through 2-3 boxes every winter. He loves the smooth consistency specially when his throat is raw feeling from the freezing air that goes in his mouth while working.
I've loved Malt O Meal for decades. People don't think of it as frugal given the size of the box versus price for a hot cereal, but it only takes 3 T/ serving. That's a lot of servings in that box for basically $5. As always, hence consistent in the title, the flavor has remained the same for all this time and the lack of being salty or sweet itself gives it the versatility to be sweet, with butter and brown sugar for example, or savory with a meat (bacon, Spam, sausage, etc), with spices, vegetables and/or egg and adjusting the texture and thickness with water content. it's a great staple for adding fiber, both soluble (energy for the body) and insoluble (keeps things moving, holds off hunger and provides food for beneficial bacteria in your gut without a ton of calories.) Win, win, win! it also can stay great in storage for an extended period. I had some from a friend who was concerned about the date on a box she had. I found no problem years after the best by date.
I think people overlook this cereal, but it is an excellent way to add iron to your diet. Three tablespoons (dry) gives you 60 % of your daily iron requirement. After i eat it, I feel energized. I like to add walnuts and blueberries for more taste and nutrition.
Rarely eat breakfast but this stores well and it makes a healthy dessert that warms my belly before sleeping 😋. cheaper than Cream o Wheat and taste's as good or better. Keep frozen fruit in your freezer and you can duplicate the oatmeal fruit bags making blueberry, strawberry, peach and others. add apple %26 cinnamon or maple syrup or Hershey's cocoa powder for chocolate... but they also sell chocolate flavor. I've added the Hershey Special Dark (that's not for sale) and either the Carnation Malted Milk or Chocolate Malted Milk for new flavors. With over 3 dozen types of flavors available; think Vanilla extract (been sold forever) Walmart .com I've bought so many flavors: peach, pineapple, lemon, pumpkin, cherry, raspberry, root beer and more [I've got 2 dozen]
This was recommended to me as filling and a decently nutritious breakfast choice. Unfortunately, it turns out I am not a fan of the "malt" flavor (or whatever it is). That said, if you like it, it feels like a solid value that will last quite a while.
