Bought it to buff out the oxidation on the front cap of my 5th wheel. Had purchased some Meguiar's #49 RV and marine heavy duty cleaner and oxidation remover and tried doing it by hand and had limited success so I decided to give the DA Power tool a try. Had seen one in a Walmart store in the Phoenix area and didn't think much of it since it is a drill attachment. Later I went online and saw were almost everyone was giving it 5 stars. Did my front cap with it and waxed the rest of my rig with it and now it looks better than the day I bought it. Also it removed some marks I had on the fenders of my truck by using a little polishing compound. They say you need a corded drill but I used a cordless with a lithium ion battery and it worked well. The only trouble with using a cordless is that some don't turn fast enough. You wan't something that turns at least 1500 r.p.m. If you wan't professional results but don't won't to spend a couple of hundred dollars for a good buffer, get this tool.
Highly recommend. This is a big time saver compared to manually applying compound or wax and the results were great. When I used the compound pad, it removed all my water spots and removed the majority of the minor scratches and nicks on my black BMW X3.
I have a right angle 18v 3/8" drill which is perfect for this unit. Easy to use, easy to adapt to curves in the sheet metal, and easy to apply polish with complete success. The pads are easily washed and dried for next time. The only drawback is with the pads, for which the attachment device eventually detaches itself from the foam pad. Having a spare sets of pads is advised.
This is a terrific product. Quality is high for the polishing unit but not so for the sponge applicators. They have a long history separating from the velcro piece glued to the bottom which attaches it to the polisher. So if you are planning to purchase the polisher its also prudent to buy the 2 pack of applicator sponges. This unit is particularly useful when detailing my boat each spring. Buy with confidence...but get exta applicators.
First let me say that I really would have given this 4-1/2 stars if this site would allow it only because the first step (compound) wasn't as powerful as I'd have liked because it's very hard to take out bad scratches with it. The only advantage to that is it makes it almost impossible to screw up your paint job/clear coat, so don't worry about that. That first step is hard, but be prepared to take all the time you have to on it because it's the only step that's going to take out imperfections. Mine looked so good after the compound, I was tempted to not do the polish step. I'm very glad I did use it though because it made a very noticeable difference in the depth of color. It's a lot of work to do it right (I spent about 5 hours on those two steps), but you'll be really happy with the results as long as your paint job isn't too far gone.
this product works well , compact , and easy to use
Excellent attachment for a 20V cordless drill. The pads come loose from the Velcro patch and I had to use 3M Adhesive 45 to re attach - so machine washable sound far fetched because the detached while hand washing. I managed to remove most of the swirls from my car using just one pad. Later used the same pad to restore headlights on a neighbor's SUV. So the pads outlast the original adhesive. Suggest buying a stronger adhesive that does not release under water.
I think if I knew more about it I would have gotten an electric on with a bigger head because I found it time consuming, maybe a little difficult to hold a apply pressure and my drill couldn't seem to hold up long enough. Nice product though.
The tool itself is fine, but the backing for the waxing and polishing buffers separate from them very easily when they are removed from the tool. Once the backing comes off you need to buy another buffer.
Product arrived open, and possibly used, from Walmart.com. Of course, if I try to return it to my local Walmart, they'll assume that I was the one who opened it. One of two items that arrived opened and possibly used. Other product (Surf City Nano Seal) was spilled out all over and wrapped in non-manufacturer plastic wrapping, so Walmart knew half the product was missing when they shipped it to me!
