I bought 5 of these and plan to give them to my colleagues and to my nephews and their respective family... after all... there have been some really huge winners on America's Got Talent and this box of skills to be mastered my put my great nephews and nieces on the road to a Vegas contract... so I have invested in my greats' futures. I won't lie.. I want to learn and master these skills also.
I bought this for my 8 yr old grandson for Christmas and I have not given it to him yet. I am very impressed in the quality of this product.. he will be so happy to get this that he will jump out out of his skin then have to use some magic to put himself back together. I know he will be very happy with this..
This was such a hit for Xmas. I have a 4 and 7 yr old. It was given to the 7 yr old and the 4 yr old was also doing the tricks. Kids love magic tricks! The set is great, quality is great. No issues, just good old non electronic fun.
Wonderful beginning magic kit. Very well made sturdy durable for young children. Purchase this for an eight-year-old child, who loves performing and has had hours of fun.
I loved that all the tricks were made of wood and durable. The kids had an easier time figuring out how to do the tricks than I did. I'm not going to lie, I struggled with the directions a little.
My granddaughter ( and her dad!) loved it. They entertained us all afternoon while the turkey cooked on Christmas.
This was a gift for my grandson. The quality of the magic set is the highest I ever seen. It was priced nicely also. Very professional looking.
I guess the first trick is.You have to find where the directions are. Had this sip for a year, but less Christmas. Was it about to throw it out and print or try to print a new set of directions until I found that they're kind of hidden under the lid... Move the box top, that's wedged in there, and they'll be underneath
The product (Deluxe Magic Set) looks nice but there are no instructions in English (we did get 2 copies of instructions in Italian, but that doesn't help. please email a set in English for the Deluxe Magic Set.
I usually love Melissa and Doug stuff and was really excited about this but I'm sad to say I just didn't like it at all. It was for my son's 6th birthday and I had also purchased a used magic kit from a local classifieds site for $8. Maybe it was having that other one that set me up for disappointment, but for almost $30 this just didn't seem worth the money at all so I returned it. From the packaging I thought this had a magician hat and a wand, but it only has a wand (no hat!)and there's a red scarf attached to one end of it for some reason. I thought it must be for one of the tricks but I couldn't see anything about that on the instructions so I don't get it. I've never seen a normal magician wand that had a scarf attached to it and my son didn't like that. Luckily his other kit also came with a really nice hat and a wand. The other kit also came with a DVD that first gave a performance of each trick and then showed you how to do it. For a kid, if you can find a set that has a DVD, GET THAT ONE! It is SO helpful and really shows the kids not only how the trick is done, but also how to really PERFORM it, as far as the whole stage presence and stuff. Most of the tricks in this set were either really simple and obvious or else too hard for a kid to pull off without giving away the trick. My sons other friends his age weren't even impressed and it was really easy to tell how almost all of the tricks were being done. Like the magic net, for example. It has a zipper on the bottom so you stick your hand through and show that it's empty, then zip it up again, slide a secret lever that opens up a separate side in the lining, and you put in two scarves. You secretly push the lever back to the empty side, unzip it again, and the scarves have vanished. HOWEVER, since they're just hiding on the other side of the lining, you can still totally see them bulging out of the side! There's a magic number prediction one that I couldn't even figure out. It has 6 wooden boards and each one has probably 50 numbers on it, most of them 2 digit numbers, and it says something about adding up the numbers from the top left to figure out which one the person has chosen. I didn't spend very long at all trying to figure it out, mostly because the directions were just one little paragraph that didn't seem clear enough to me, and how is a kid supposed to add a bunch of 2 digit numbers in his head on the spot while he's doing a magic trick, without the person being able to tell he's doing math?! One of my favorites was little coin dish that magically makes coins "multiply", because there's a secret compartment in the side that you keep facing yourself. So you ask someone to put a quarter in the dish, but you've already secretly placed 2 or 3 more quarters in the little slot underneath it. Then when you dump the dish into your hand all the coins come out and you have 4. It was one of the only ones that actually tricked my kids, but that's not a very fun trick for a kid to do if they're wanting to put on a performance because it takes all of about 5 seconds to do it. There's another one that's pretty short and dumb that's a little box with a very obvious mirror inside, at an angle, so when you put a pencil or your wand or whatever through a hole it's behind the mirror in the middle and it looks like the pencil has disappeared in the middle. It's really hard to get the audience at the right angle on that one so they don't see that it's a mirror inside and none of us were able to do that successfully. My other favorite that was probably the best all around (since it took a little longer to perform) was with some colorful little wooden rods that you put through a cylinder and it looks like they're coming out in a different order than how you put them in. Sorry this is so long. I just didn't think this was worth the price and can't recommend it.
