This little radio has all the features of the big brother in a small handy size just perfect for personal use. The reception is excellent on both bands. The AM band really surprised me, I pick up Boston from central North Carolina on any given night. It has the back lit display which the smaller one does not. Overall, for the money there probably isn't a better emergency preparedness radio around. It does it all.
All functions work well except for charge methods. To get best weater reception, I put this compact radio in the kitchen window that gets sun on the solar cell several hours daily. Still, battery slowly has gone to 1/2 charge in,a week. Hand crank works, and in an emergency would get info while cranking, but would take forever to charge battery. Charges fine via usb. Like the small size for camping use.
This seems to be a well designed and well-built unit that checks all the boxes. We recently had a tornado and realized that where we live, if we lose power, we would not get a severe storm notification. This unit is utilitarian. Do not buy it if you expect high fidelity. That said its a very good emergency radio.
This is a great NOAA radio that tells you when bad weather is coming your way and can also charge up your phone! The rechargeable battery is a real plus, not to mention the solar and crank options to ensure a way to charge up your phone if you don't have electricity. And the size is small, so you can easily throw it into your car when you go camping.
Small and sturdy. The device is plastic, but does not feel cheap. All aspects (buttons, antenna, case closures, etc.) feel solid and function as intended. The crank seems a bit "light" and is a bit awkward, but I think that'd be the case with any of these smaller emergency units. The solar charging is slow, as expected. All in all, I chose this over other units b/c the size and weight were good. I did not need or want option for non-rechargeable batteries, I like the digital LCD tuning (which found the NOAA reports just fine), and it has options for charging. This model also allows for replacing the rechargeable battery which is nice.
Very pleased with the radio. We live out in the northern woods without any kind of warning system so wanted something that would alert us. Did not want to spend a lot of money and this does the job. Comes in loud and clear. Would highly recommend this product.
This is a great little radio. Its like a modern version of my 1960s transistor radio. But unlike the 60s, the battery lasts forever and the reception is so much better. The weather stations are very helpful when camping/fishing. I can carry it in my pocket for convenience. Its become a companion. I ordered some for my grandchildren.
For the price I think it is a good deal. The use of Crank or battery is great. Or you can let it sit in the sun light to charge. For small radio and weather station it picks up pretty good. You can also charge your phone.
This is a handy gadget to have during storm season. I love that it not only has the crank option but it also has solar charging and a rechargeable battery. It is nice that it offers AM/FM radio along side the weather alert radio. It is compact and perfect to travel with. The flashlight is a great feature as well.
I would have gavin this a five-star but the reception isn't the best on it, other than that it gets real loud, has a super bright flashlight and SOS light. Over all this thing's amazing other than the reception which I find very very important.
