Minwax Indoor/Outdoor Helmsman Spar Urethane, Semi-Gloss, Clear, 1 Quart

I am very happy with the outcome of this finish. I put 3 light coats on an antique dresser that I plan on using as a sink base. I did a light sand between coats and the 3rd coat totally changed the look becoming quite glossy. I believe it will be great for repelling water. The only thing to keep in mind is that the color is not clear, perhaps a bit orange. I did the work outside as it does have some fumes.

Used for a outdoor art display and worked great, only needed two coats and it dried super quickly. if applying liberally be aware if there is drippage that can go under piece that it is clean quickly.

6 hours is the minimum drying time for sanding/recoating. I counsel patience. 12 - 24 hours is what I have always followed and never had a problem. I usually apply 5 coats (which may be extreme). The final finish is spectacular, especially after curing for a minimum of 48 hours. If you're in a hurry and don't have the luxury of time use the Minwax water-based varnish. I'm an ol' guy have used spar varnish for the past 30 years and it's never let me down..

My hobbies include making rustic art woodworking projects. The material;s are often reclaimed lumber of which most are designed to endure the midwest's outdoor elements. I am often asked for product referrals and do not hesitate to make the reference of Marine Spar Varnish being used to product teak and mahogany wood on salt water craft. If it can endure these elements, think what it will do in one's backyard.

I have been a professional woodworker for 25 years and I can tell you that every product that Minwax makes is beyond excellent. Most of the furniture that I restore is from the 1850's and no one can tell the difference from 1850 stain to today's stain. I will not use anything else. Woodchuck woodworks

I stained and coated 2x a 12" piece of oak, which I left outside and totally exposed for a whole year in Massachusetts. Snow fell on it, UV hit it directly. I covered half of it with opaque tape first … and after the year was over, washed it and removed the tape. There were *absolutely* no signs of aging, cracking, nothing. Couldn't tell which side had been protected. In my book, that is a A+.

Product is excellent. The delivery was from two states away which caused multiple delays.
