Moen 1222 Brass Hot and Cold Faucet Cartridge

Amazing how much better than knock off, controls immediately and hats off to Walmart for blowing away the home shops by half price.

It's much cheaper to buy the original Moen valve upfront than to purchase a third-party valve, encounter problems, and then have to replace it with the original Moen valve anyway.

The repair of my shower faucet would have been made much simpler if 1) The model number of the cartridge was clearly printed on the cartridge so it could be seen prior to removal. 2) No special tools were required to remove the cartridge 3) Installation documents were readily available on the Moen website. I had to use a Bing image search to make a model number identification of my cartridge. Even that was a best guess because I couldn't read the model number of the current cartridge (because it isn't printed ANYWHERE on the cartridge), nor could I even remove it without the special tool that ships with the replacement cartridge. The hardest part of the repair was all of the unknowns. Moen could have made that MUCH SIMPLER by putting a cartridge model number of the front of the cartridge so it could be see prior to removal. I get that the "removal tool" may not be required if you can manhandle the current cartridge out, but I was afraid to force anything because without any clear documentation or instructions I wasn't sure if there was anything else that had to be done prior to cartridge removal. Again, it was the unknowns. Once everything was known though, and I had the replacement cartridge in hand, the instructions told me everything I needed to know and the replacement was simple. Help us out. Put the model numbers on your products, make documentation simple to discover (you can't find the installation instructions for the 1222 cartridge on the moen.com site), and give tips on how to remove cartridges WITHOUT special tools.

The part came in a container that had obviously been opened before and one of the parts was missing (one of the black rubber side pieces). Thankfully I could reuse one of those black pieces from my old cartridge. I'm not sure what I would have done if I didn't have one.

CRAP ! We reno'd the bathroom in 2023 , install a new Moen Single Action Faucet assembly and the cartridge started leaking last week, 2/10/2026. Had to replace it and needed to purchase a 'cartridge puller' because i couldn't pull it out of the casing. One of the flat rubber seal torn off due to pulling it out (reason it wouldn't come out easily) had split. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE : cartridge no 1222

They mailed me the wrong item. I ordered 1222 and they sent 1222b. It looks extremely similar so it wasn't noticed until I installed it and it didn't work.
