Great project

Onyx2016 September 1, 2020

This is a great little project for any science loving kiddo. It comes complete with everything you need to grow an actual crystal. It does require some adult supervision and help but for the most part they can do it on their own. Preparing the stuff for growing takes about 15 minutes, so it's fairly quick. But it does take at least a week to fully grow the crystal. I like that it comes with an informational book about different crystals as well so it helps peak interest even more! Perfect project especially right now with all the kiddos at home.

It really grows crystals

SG1970 August 28, 2020

This box kit has everything provided except a glass jar or bowel to grow your own crystals. It was very easy to flow the instructions. Smaller kids will need help doing the steps and handling boiled water. You find a wide mouth jar or a small glass bowel and pour the powder on it then boiling water and still with provided wooden spoon for two min and all the powder will be dissolved and then let cool 10 min. Place a tablet (rock seed) in the middle and place the jar.someplace that won't be disturbed but will have a lot of light if moved it can break for finishing growing. Check on it and watch it grow over the next week. I think ours was done around 5 days and all the water was evaporated. I used a glass loaf pan and I think it was a little wide. It was fun to watch every day to see its progress. But it never glowed in the dark as the box said but we didn't care. For your little scientist they will love it!!

Good kit for kids

QueenK August 23, 2020

This is a cool crystal kit for kids. The instructions were easy to follow for my 12 year old. It even came with a crystal which she thinks is very cool. We are growing it in the window sill and it's coming out nicely. I can't wait till it finishes so I can see the glow-in-the dark feature. I will be buying these as Christmas gifts. I received this National Geographic crystal kit as a spark reviewer for my honest review.

Great quality

Les August 26, 2020

We have all been there. Your kid wants to grow crystals. So you buy a kit, and you get a mediocre result. Not with this one. My 10 yr old is currently growing the crystals, I can already tell it is going to be way better. It comes in a great package with easy to follow instructions, and she had great fun even getting it started.

Great learning experience!

Dani991 August 31, 2020

I'll be honest with you, I was afraid this would be overly complicated. I was very wrong. This is super easy, and was exciting for both my kids. You simply boil water, mix your powder in and stir until It is dissolved. You add your special rock and leave it in a place it will go Undisturbed until it's done growing. We managed to get some decent sized crystals too.

Expected more

Kath August 25, 2020

I honestly expected a bigger box for a greater exploration experience. Great for a curious kid. The box has 3 separate small packages inside to separate your material correctly. National Geographic never fails to take you for an adventure.

Crystal kit

Kimmiii August 26, 2020

I thought it was ok. The only problem I had with this one was the instruction book. So many instructions for just something super simple. The time frame was correct. Definitely remember to keep it in the sun and out of the way of extra vibrations. Lol My son loves the crystals.

Underwhelming

SimplySara August 31, 2020

Unfortunately, I am disappointed in the results of this kit. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I was hoping to grow a larger crystal. The crystal my kids grew was no bigger than the size of a pea. I re-read the instructions several times and am left wondering what exactly we did wrong. We even did the extra tips which included covering the chamber and keeping it away from vibrations. I will say that I enjoyed the booklet and rock that came with the set. That was a big hit. It gave me new interest in growing crystals which I did not even realize was possible before this kit. I would definitely be interested in buying the supplies a la carte to try this same experiment again with our own supplies so on that end I am happy for the inspiration to try again.
