Replaced same type now over 10 yrs. This does job well once you figure the right placement of cake in the basket. Only 1 way seems to fit beter. A must have to feed woodpeckers but deter Starlings that will devour a normal vertical suet cake in short time. different paint scheme would be nice.
cedar feeder for woodpeckers ....upside down so other birds like grackles.. blackbirds...don't bother as much ....I just hung it out ...so hoping they get use to it 😊...design is nice ...construction is well made ....
just what I needed to discourage the starlings from eating the suet before the woodpeckers even had a chance to find it! I like that the suet is protected from the rain and it is easy to access and also easy to clean (the roof slides off).
Good materials, good construction. I like that the design protects the suet from weather as well as from nuisance birds gobbling it up in 2 days. However, it is taking the preferred birds a while to use. So far only a couple smaller sized birds, a Chickadee and a downy woodpecker. It's still a keeper, though!
We really enjoy feeding birds, and the different members of the woodpecker family are one of our favorites. The Flicker is around all year, so we put up our new feeder right away. These birds can eat upside down, and this time of feeder helps to minimize the amount of food that other ‘greedy' birds eat (doves, starlings). The price for this feeder is reasonable and is well made . It holds one small suet or peanut cake.
Purchased because of problems with larger birds stealing food. Works well for smaller birds and it is very attractive.
my suet cage was being eaten up by hordes of starlings, this was a little more than what i eanted to spend but it did the trick and the little one have suet to eat
Built very well. Attractive. Birds love it!
So far we have not had any luck getting many birds. It did keep starlings away but we haven't seen many birds at all. We'll see if they figure it out. It's made well but maybe it's not for our birds
I wouldn't recommend this product. I had this bird feeder up for a few months and my birds did after a few days, learn to use it but they eventually stopped using it at all so I put my suet cage back up. It's not squirrel proof at all; they tore the wire right off and got to the suet. in addition, upon arrival, I could see the poor quality paint job; very thin paint applied and paint missing in areas.
