In the Oklahoma heat, nectar can go bad in as little as one day or less. I buy around one of these every month or two! As you may know, spoiled nectar is unsafe for hummingbirds to consume. It can be *deadly* to hummingbirds if it develops black mold. This product keeps my nectar fresh for about 5-7 days in the heat of summer and prevents dreaded black mold!! Manufacturer — if you read this please take a look at the silver seal under the cap and ensure it cannot flake off into the product. I have had this happen before and it's very difficult to remove those metallic flakes from the liquid.

I read an article recently that said that hummingbird nectar and feeders can get moldy, and that if hummingbirds consume the mold, it kills them. Well, that was alarming! I used Nectar Defender, and I think it helps. The hummingbirds have been coming back. Yay! Happy (Alive!) Hummingbirds!

This product works! It extends the life of our home made nectar by two or three times. The nectar stays clear and clean until the feeder is almost empty. The Hummers seem to like it too, as they drink it up just as fast as the non treated nectar.

We've used this for a couple of years now. No idea if it really works, but seems to. We usually only change our nectar every 10 days in our hummingbird feeders, and haven't noticed any problems. The oriole feeders get changed out weekly since they're messy eaters.
