I was looking for something to slice top or bottom round beef roast, i/l/o paying $12 per pound at the deli, this is perfect. Had to play around with slice thickness no big deal. Clean up was easy. Looking forward to slicing cheeses & veggies. I did buy the 2 year extended warranty (how do you rate that Wal-Mart, seemed silly that you asked me to rate that as well)
The nesco fs 250 slicer works great. I worked in many restaurants in my day, and this slicer ranks among the slicers that i used. Very easy to use, the blade can definitely cut thru meat, cheese, and anything to help you prepare any meal or salad. Comes apart very easily to clean components, but be very cautious removing the blade, cleaning the blade, and installing the blade after cleaning very sharp as it should be. Awesome
Well packaged, fast delivery. I have sliced raw meats as well as cooked meats with no problem. Works great for veggies and hard cheeses as well. This motor will not bog down with any job I've put to it so far. Clean up is easy, no tools needed! The blade is VERY sharp so be careful. Suggest you read and follow the safety directions! Cuts the best jerky slices, and my family loves their jerky. It does not have a catch tray, but a plate at the rear works great. I've had many slicers over the years and this one is right up at the top. Best price I found was at Walmart, saved over 80.00 buying here over other on-line sites for the same slicer. I am very pleased with this purchase. You won't be disappointed!
We partial froze the meat we were making jerky with, so we could cut it 1/4 thick. This went right thru the meat and gave very uniform slices. We haven't used it for anything else yet. But we sure have made a lot of jerky. Even did some deer jerky for a hunter friend.
I sliced a roast beef like it was a hot knife through butter. My old slicer broke so I ordered this one. It came in only three days and I used it right away. A lot bigger than my old one and much easier to use. The handle made it easy to cut all of the roast beef without having to change a thing.
Nice slicer overall. Tried it on a six pound boneless "football" ham which we slice up for lunchmeat. Sliced nice even slices without hesitation. The larger blade is nice because with smaller blade slicers I've used in the past, I would have to cut the ham lengthwise and make half slices. The only drawback, as with most home slicers, is that you need to limit slicing to about five minutes at a time and then allow it to cool down for ten or fifteen minutes or you will overheat the motor and melt the nylon drive gear. Found this out the hard way on my last slicer. It's fairly easy to clean and I like the simple on/off switch unlike my last slicer which had a safety lock with a button that had to held down the entire time you sliced.
Like every slicer I can afford, I wish it had a longer throw so I could slice my bacon full length and I wish it ran at a higher speed but this slicer does exactly what it is supposed to do and it does it well. I like the ease of cleaning also. Simple to take apart and put back together
Pretty sure this one is going back. I should have just bought the "Professional" slicer for the $270 and been happier. I figured that this was one of the "better" low end slicers but I was wrong. Not worth the money even though it's fairly cheap. So I bought this because we are always buying deli meats. I figured I can get the meat in bulk for half the cost and slice at home. In principle it should work. I got this in, and sliced some hard salami. The motor bogged down, started to smell "hot". When it was all done, I started to clean it and found some unknown black residue. It has a 180Watt power supply. THIS SHOULD SLICE HARD STUFF without any problem. The handle that holds the food in place only backs away from the slicer about 5 to 7 inches (not enough for a lot of the stuff being sliced on this). Seems very clunky to use. Blade looks warped, its a serrated edge blade so it's "chewing" food as you slice it. Right up until I started to use it I was very impressed with this unit. Then I turned it on. The thickness adjustment may as well just be an "on slice" or "off slice" mode as it is useless as far as selecting how thick you want something. I had it set between "P or Park 0 clearance" and 1 and it was still very thick. I WANTED IT SHAVED... Slices are inconsistent. There is no way to sharpen this blade like with more expensive models. Slicing something that is not stiff or ridged is probably best as the shoot is very narrow and won't allow for hard items to fall without being snapped. Pros: It's cheap. Easy to clean
Despite the good reviews, this was not a good purchase for me. I bought this for my husband for Christmas. A couple days later he tried to use it to slice beef for jerky and the blade was warped and not secure. My husband almost cut off his finger. I would not recommend this slicer.
Never got a chance to use this slicer. Took it out of the box, plugged it in, turned it on and the motor started changing speed randomly on its own and was laboring immediately. As well very apparent the slice guide plate is not properly aligned with the cutting blade.....overall is just poor quality....will be returning for refund. Zero Stars
