Nostalgia Retro 2.5-Ounce Tabletop, Oil Kettle Electric Popcorn Popper, Red White Stripe

I love this machine my husband got me.... Pops the 10 cups of popcorn it stated. The popcorn cernal catcher isn't the drawer one, it's the tilt out red door, run your popcorn over that door into your bowl and it does catch the cernals. The machine is smaller than stated (17h 9w 10.5 L)... I find using Coconut Oil gives your popcorn a more Movie Theater taste. My girls love it we use it every day...

My 9 year old couldn't wait to get this popcorn maker with one of her Christmas gift cards. We even read all of the reviews and decided we would give it a try. I personally think people are expecting champagne on a beer drinking budget. Its a cool machine for under 40 bucks and serves it's purpose. It is the ideal size and does a magnificent job cranking out kernels. The arm handle is for appearance purposes only so we did not put it on. It makes lifting the kettle to dump popcorn at the end of a popping cycle easier to keep things flowing. The clean up is simple to us as the door opens completely. Just remove kettle and clean. So far so good. We purchased the protection plan to ensure many movie nights to come.

Works very well and instructions are a help too. I used to make popcorn with a revere 4 quart pan (thin bottom type), and it worked very well, but this sounded easier regarding cleanup. In the end there, usually, is no easy way to make popcorn without some cleanup work. I simply wipe the inside with a paper towel and, so far, that seems to do alright. But, as I pointed to my wife, the cleanup time, and here this is not a downgrade to the unit, is about the same as my old method. With the old method, the pan, I could almost fill up a large paper grocery type bag with popcorn which I flavored with grated Parmesan cheese. Note I used lots of oil in the pan which was needed to pop that much corn and the oil helped the grated cheese attach to the popcorn. The popcorn made this way was even very good after it cooled and stayed that way for several days. Note, this last method did require a cleanup of ejected uncooked corn as I had to dump the pan several times into the paper bag as the popcorn was popping. This method does is not work well with a thick bottomed pan as the heat is too slow to the corn.

I gave this as a gift to my brother-in-law for his "man-cave" and he loved it...everyone at his birthday party loved it too..It worked so good and adding Walmart popcorn flavors to the popcorn was fun and delicious!!! Grown ups liked this even more than the kids did!!! Easy to use and enjoy!

Great machine... Was going to rent one for my son's bday party for $50. So I decided to try and buy one for around the same price. It worked out great this machine was cheaper than renting one and was a great hit at the party, and the best part is I get to keep it. Also a plus, is that it is very easy to use, my children love making homemade popcorn!!!

I purchased this as an Xmas gift for the whole family and they loved it. We made popcorn right after we opened it. Need to follow the instructions and warm up the machine for 5 minutes then add the oil and kernels. I took the advice and did not use Orville kernels.I purchased a kit at Walmart by Kernel Season's which included kernels and seasoning. I used Orville's butter oil for popcorn. I haven't tried the vegetable oil which the instructions recommended. I made 3 batches in less than 10 minutes and it was enough for a family of 5. I also purchased the butter spray and different kinds of popcorn seasonings for the popcorn. The machine is pretty easy to clean. Simply take out the kettle and pour hot soapy water in it and let it sit for a few minutes. While the kettle soaks you wipe the inside of the machine with a warm damp soapy rag or kitchen paper and then dry. All together it took about 5 minutes to clean. The only thing I wish it came with is a scoop to scoop up the popcorn once its popped. It also looks very nice on my counter. I gave it a lower review for durability since the door feels very fragile and needs to be handled gently. Looks like it could break easily. Bottom line, I would recommend this machine to any popcorn lover.

Love love this machine. I got this for a family Holiday present and WOW. It does exactly what is expected and brings the family closer as I wanted. Movie Nights in the home with children is more entertaining and appreciated by all. No more microwave popcorn! The joy my children get and the anticipation it builds is the most precious part. They are excited and it doesn't feel like a chore or a must do for parents, its a want to. It is so quick and easy to set up, the popcorn pops without fear of burning it, every piece is light, crunchy, and fresh. Instructions are simple and easy to follow. Clean up is a snap. Space saving design allows me to leave it out for use any time of the week. The best part is, I know its fresh and I know whats in it. Family night events have been enjoyed more regularly because of this machine.

Prior to purchasing this popper, I had purchased a popper in the store made by Select Brands. It was a dismal failure. However, this popper did everything it was supposed to do and the quality of the popcorn is very good. If you're going to buy this it has to be in part for the fun of watching it pop. The steam of the popcorn fog up the plexiglass windows; however, you can still watch and hear the popcorn explode out of the kettle. It makes about a medium-sized mixing bowl's worth of popcorn in each batch. Making more is not a problem and I would guess you could turn out a batch every five minutes. If you have 20 people it will be slow, but if your feeding eight or less it should keep them in popcorn as fast as they can eat it. Clean up with these machines is always tricky, but the kettle comes completely out and while you CANNOT submerse it in water, I have found that ladling in soapy water and using a small brush cleans up the inside very well. I also put foil in the bottom to limit the mess in the bottom. I can clean our popper up in five minutes or less. It was our seven year old son who talked me into buying it (for his Mom!) and he really enjoys it. I plan on using it at his birthday party as I suspect it will be a hit with the kids.

Plusses- Looks Great and Fun for kids and Adults Easy to Use I would buy this again, been using it every day Great tasting popcorn, if you follow some tips -SEE BELOW Minuses- Batches are a bit small- I batch = a little more than 1/2 of a microwave popcorn bag You have to be very precise to make the popcorn taste right---if you just want easy & 100% consistent results--probably better to just use a microwave bag...I am still experimenting to get consistent batches.. but when they are good they are very good Popcorn is only luke warm...maybe a higher wattage bulb would help TIPS!!!! 1. Preheat the kettle 3-5minutes 2. Soak the corn kernels in water for about 1/2 an hour before popping,-- the moisture makes them pop better---less unpopped corn and fluffier popcorn. DO NOT over do it though, I soaked 1 batch all night in the quest for perfect popcorn ..and they never popped right 3 Use popping oil with COCONUT oil in it. (thats what the theaters do) 4. Do Not use butter as a topping, just splurge the 3$ on the "Butter flavor topping oil" it is well worth it! PS> this is what makes movie theater popcporn that taste TIP#4 is probably the most important for "movie theater " tasting popcorn 5. If you overcook and burn the oil, you must clean it out or the next batches will never come out right-as the burnt on oil will prevent the new oil from getting hot enough. 6. I cleaned the kettle by pouring in water and vinegar---and running the kettle for 10 minutes to heat it up...like cleaning a coffee pot...clean as a whistle after that...

Appeared huge online. Picked up a tiny box at Site to Store. Major problems removing crammed machine from original packaging. Item much smaller than expected, but willing to try it out anyway. Followed instructions and set up for first batch of buttery corn. Appeared to work fine as far as output but wait a minute! Where's the popcorn smell? Why is the popcorn LUKEWARM straight from the popper? Why is the popcorn TOUGH? And so on and so on until back to the store it went. At this price, skip it. Your regular cookware will do a better job.
