Olfa 45mm Rotary Blade 5pc

I've used Olfa rotary blades for over 10 years. I make pot holders to sell at craft fairs and online. In a typical year I will cut 1,000 9" squares of fabric, 500 9" squares of cotton batting, and uncountable pieces for binding tape and hanging loops. I have to change the blade about every 8 months: that is, after 750 cuts, plus the odds and ends. The Olfa blade has never let me down! It is a vital part of my work.

I love these rotary blades, and each blade seems to last a long time before changing blades. They are sharp cutters and indispensable when cutting fabric.

The real replacement, it is not a substitute. They fit the handle perfectly and are sharp. Be aware, they have a thin veneer of machining oil on them and will be 'stuck' together. Just gently and carefully slide the one blade sideways off the rest. Keep them in a dry drawer.

I always replace my Olfa rotary blades with Olfa rotary blades. Walmart.com had the best price that I could find.

I have an Olfa rotary cutter which I've used successfully for well over 16 years. I wouldn't consider anything but an Olfa, and therefore I always purchase genuine OLFA 45 mm blades for my cutter. I generally run into our local sewing center, but due to the current virus, and the fact that I'm the Coordinator of our church's sewing ministry, I'm one of several working on face masks and running out of blades. Walmart had Olfa in a 5-blade pack for reasonable price and it was quickly delivered, which I greatly appreciated. HOWEVER, i had to change my blade every day. They simply didn't hold up and did not have the typical cut that you would find in an Olfa blade. I have to wonder if these are not genuine, or if they are defective. I used 4 of the 5 in less than a week, and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. And with the need of the local hospitals, it slowed me down tremendously. I wasn't cutting anything unusual. While the mask had 3 layers and a filter pocket, all layers were your basic cotton fabric and bleached muslin. Going forward, I'm either going back to purchase from the sewing center, where I can easily return and/or exchange, or I'll investigate and/or research if Olfa has made changes to their specifications. Basically, I'm disappointed, and ended up using inexpensive blades purchased a while back as blades claiming to be as good as Olfa. They aren't, but they were better than nothing.
