I purchased this unit because I have several movies on VHS I haven't gotten around to replacing with DVD/BluRay. Set up of the unit is simple and straight forward. RCA cables, included in the box, connect the unit to your TV. Insert a VHS and off it goes. The unit has auto rewind and auto eject after the tape is rewound. The remote is straight forward as well. I haven't used the DVD yet, however, I believe it will function as well as the VHS. Make note....this unit will NOT copy a VHS to a DVD, however, the DVD does have "in-line" record capabilities. It requires a coax cable connection to accomplish this task. In as much as I don;t have cable I am not able to report on the DVD's recording efficiency or clarity. But, for the price, how can you go wrong?
Shopped from online store because my Aunt needed a replacement her's was ruined by a lightning strike. This product was perfect for her. The whole process was extremely well thought out and easy to use. Opted for pickup at local store . Once notification was emailed to me picked up unit and installed at her home. Product exceeded my expectations. It is easy to operate and within 20 minutes my aunt understood how it functioned and was able to use the unit . Left her home with her in her recliner watching a comedy movie with a Smile on her face. Couldn't ask for a better purchase experience or product. Thank you. G. Stroud
I purchased this Sanyo model since I needed another dvd player plus a VHS player since I have old VHS tapes that I haven't been able to play and the dvd player I had was moved to the basement tv. This was the best purchase that I made. The combination of both players makes it easy to play a tape and then a dvd if that is what I wish to do. Both did the job I expected and I am happy to say that I am very satisfied. Excellent imagery for both. Picture is clear, quality is excellent.
Machine works perfectly. Don't play DVDs much, but I bought it specifically for my collection of VHS tapes. In this regard, it is great value for the money. No problems, fast rewind, good picture, and many of my tapes are ancient, so I am very pleased with my purchase.
We had one exactly like this one. The DVD part stopped working. We had it for a long time. Senior citizens do a whole lot better with electronics they have previously owned. Very sad to know this type of player will no longer be made. VHS tapes are a thing of the past! :( Very simple step by step instructions should be given for seniors to understand how to hook up and play a new device. I saw 100 different languages (well maybe not that many) :) with instructions on how to operate. Wish one said "For Senior Citizens".
$82.99 plus tax and extended warranty was around $95 out the door.We are retired older people living in North Idaho. When weather is bad (often) it will get used a bunch. Pro:Plays our old VCR tapes as well as the DVDs.Pretty clear on a 65"Mitsibishi projection TV.Sound is OK with the BOSE speakers in TV(Could be the old tapes).Would have got 5 stars, but see below. Con:Uses the 3 wire set up to TV.Tried another unit that was $180 that had a HDMI cable to TV and recorded.Would have liked to burn our tapes to DVD,but the tapes are copy protected,so no can do.Returned it to Walmart and ordered the Sanyo from walmart.com.Expensive unit was a nicer picture quality slightly.Just could not justify the added cost.
Received product in good condition. Had difficulty with remote (defective). Called Sony and afer a hour trying to correct it was determined it had a bad remote. They sent me a new one which works good. They were very courtious and helpful. I can now program but cannot record a program. I don't want to call again as they would suggest returning unit to store. I don't have box anymore and for my purpose at least I can put in one of my tapes to VCR and it plays. I understand that they have stopped making VCR now so for my purpose of purchashing it would do to function my movies. It is a shame because there are alot of us Seniors who still have the 8 track movies and enjoy replaying them. I have DVD's too but still love those oldies but goodies.
The picture of the box is misleading. Had I known that there was no tuner included, I would have never ordered it. If you are handy and know how to makes things like this work, then this is the product for you, but I won't waste my money on ordering at Wal Mart on line again.
the DVD player is fine. Nice clear picture and audio. But I have 3 other DVD players. I was wanting a VCR to play my old tapes on. I've watched 3 original movie tapes, not movies I taped and they all had the same problem.......grainy and looks like I'm looking through a screen. The only adjustment I can find is tracking which I tried but it didn't help. These movies were recorded in SP, the fastest and best quality, so I'm disappointed with the VCR on this unit.
The "R" in "VCR" stands for "Recorder." This is a DVD player and a Video Cassette PLAYER. Not a recorder. An additional piece of equipment is required if you want to record with this item. You get to find this out once you've hooked the item up and are reading the instruction book wondering what you're doing wrong.
