I have bought two of these in the past month for my grandchildren, they are very nice looking and sturdy. Having a white finish is an advantage. It allows them to go with any current or future change in color or decor choices for the rooms as they grow.
Yes, the reviews are right...there is some assembly required, but it is not as bad as some of the others have posted. I bought two of these beds for my daughters. The first bed took me about an hour and a half to set up, the second one took about an hour. Very cute beds and the under bed storage is great. My girls use this as their dressers.
This bed is nice and sturdy, bed assembled quickly, It is what it is as far a particle board products go, the drawers were a pain but I think most drawers are. The coolest part is behind the drawers is a ton of space to store toys played with less often, the base the mattress sits on is to be screwed down but instead we tied a thin rope so you could lift the mattress and wood plank to access stored junk, that space made up for the pain the drawers were to assemble.
My 14-year old daughter and I assembled this bed in a total of about 4 hours throughout the day at a leisurely pace. Once home with the box (store pick up), we opened it in the van and carried individual pieces into the house without difficulty. Everything went together perfectly per the directions (complicated enough to require reading, e.g., multiple fastener types, etc.) with no missing or damaged parts. (Hint: upon opening, count and sort parts into paper cups, and use a magnetic head screwdriver to help avoid dropping/loosing screws. Having assembled particle board furniture before, I knew to handle it very gingerly, guard the corners, don't over tighten fasteners or step on pieces, etc.) It took some patience with the drawer glide adjustments to get the drawer fronts to line up properly and fit flat against the bedframe. You don't get a lot of tries with this because the particle board will disintegrate after about the 3rd time you put the screw in the same hole. The drawer sides attach to the drawer fronts with slotted plastic brackets, so there is some adjustment there for drawer squareness and drawer face left/right placement relative to the drawer sides. The installed drawers only take up half of the width of the bed (They could have put a row on both sides). Fortunately, the mattress board is supplied in two halves cut lengthwise, so we screwed one down over the drawers, but not the other. On the lose side, we drilled a pair of ~3/8" holes about 6" in from the side and 5" apart--one pair toward the foot, one pair toward the head (about 3.5' apart). We threaded cording down and up through the pair of the holes and tied it sturdily to make a cord handle. With the mattress off, you can grab the 2 cord handles and lift the lose side as if it were hinged down the centerline of the bed. Voila-- access to a half a bed's worth of storage! I think it's sturdy enough to last through 2-3 openings per year for change of seasonal clothing, etc. It wouldn't be convenient or sturdy enough for every day access. I can sit on the bed with her lying on it and it seems sturdy (together we weigh 200 lb). The mattress board (particle board) is supported around the edges with particle board strips and crossways in the middle (No center lengthwise support). I would expect the top and bottom half of the mattress board to sag after 8 years or so, especially if the user weighed 200 lbs. If you have carpet, assemble it on the exact spot you want it to sit. This storage bedframe is as advertised and at great value at the best price found ($129 March 2014).
Picked it up at Walmart last night at 1835 had the bed completed by 2350. Im a 50+ female and I put it together with no help. Instructions are easy to follow and in a little over 3 hours I was able to sleep on a bed for the first time in 2 months. My only complaint is it took over two weeks to arrive at the store. However, it was a very easy process to pick up from the store and they loaded it for me.
Wow. My wife and I love this bed. We needed a guest bed. We needed a dresser for our guests. But, our guest bedroom also serves as our office, so we had no spare room for a dresser. This bed is awesome. Goes together very well. I have seen reviews about this being "a hard bed to build", when really, its just time consuming. Not hard at all. The fit and finish is surprisingly good. I cant believe this is selling at this price point. You need one of these beds? This is the one you want.
I expect this bed to last for years. It has a solid particle board base (that the mattress sits on) so if your kids jump on the beds that might break it. If you have calm, normal kids then this should be fine :) Also, the beds are about 1/4 inch longer than they say...which mattered to me b/c of how I had them in the room. I had to remove some baseboard trim so they'd fit. See picture.
Bought two of these beds and am thrilled with the look of them. Just what I wanted, but my husband found them to be poorly constructed. The first bed had holes drilled in the wrong place therefore the drawer would not close properly. Luckily he was able to drill two new holes and fix the problem. The second bed was constructed correctly. Other reviews had stated this same problem, and in my case you could not just switch the drawers. I think the manufacture should do a little better quality control. Because I would not want to ship them back for the boxes are incredibly heavy. Otherwise, Iam very pleased with the beds and the great price.
Have had this bed for about a week. It was bought for my 20 month son who figured out how to climb out of his crib. It took my husband about 2 hours to put it together. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE DIRECTIONS. It looks nice. The drawers are a little shallow, but good for storage (diapers, wipes, extra baby blankets...). Most importantly, my son seems to like it.
I ordered this bed for my room in college. Little did I know the high risk of receiving broken pieces would impose on my first week. It arrived before the expected due date and I was extremely thrilled. However, after carrying a heavy bulky object down the stairs, I was disappointed to discover that two important pieces were broken as I started assembling it. Since it was a lot of work and I had so little time to install the bed, I ended up returning it and it was not an easy process. Thank god the delivery man was so generous as to help me repackage the box together.
