Purchased for use on boat to keep mosquitoes, no-see-ums, biting flies, and spiders at bay. We applied this product when we were cruising up a river through a swarm of flying beetles that landed on the boat and on us. Once applied, they did not bother us at all. We've had similar experiences with mosquitoes and this product worked extremely well. Mosquitoes stayed away. Overall, I was looking for the most effective, less toxic repellent available, and would recommend this one. It's not greasy or sticky on your skin, it doesn't leave a thick residue or odor, and it's been highly effective in keeping bugs away.
I went to Louisianna and was really worried about getting bit. I used this everyday after my shower and I did not get one single bite the entire week. I would recomend this to anyone trying to avoid Mosquitoes.
This product saved my vacation and vacations for life! The only thing I use to ward off no see-ums who make my skin dotted with swollen welts! Worth every cent! Thank you!!
My husband and I traveled to St. John's, Antigua for our 1year anniversary and we wanted to take some really good insect repellent with us. I ordered two bottles and we packed one in each of our checked luggage. We would definitely recommend this product to others. We heard so much about the Zika virus and we wanted to protect ourselves. We researched Antigua and found two confirmed Zika cases that were contracted abroad. We sprayed on in the morning and again in the evening. It does last about 8hrs! My husband had a mosquitoe land right on his arm and then flew away!
Took this on our vacation to Alaska because of the high rating Consumer Reports gave it. The mosquitos were ready to eat us alive as soon as we got off the ship in Skagway. Once we applied the Sawyer repellent we were able to walk and shop all day without any bother by their "national bird"! It worked great and certainly saved the day!!! Would highly recommend and will repurchase when this is empty. Don't ever want to be without this!
In this 20% formulation (the strongest available in US) picaridin seems almost as good as much higher concentrations of DEET in repelling our ravenous Minnesota mosquitoes. It might not last quite as long as the strongest DEET products. However, the huge advantage of picaridin is that it doesn't dissolve plastic products like cameras, binoculars, camping gear, etc. I can apply it and not worry about causing damage to my gear. I gave away my bottles of DEET, and I'll never go back to it. This particular Sawyer product has almost no scent when dry. I've also tried another company's 20% picaridin product, but it was so perfumy that my wife refused to ride in the car with me when I used it. I threw it out! Now I'll only buy 20% picaridin and only in unscented products. But I wish that Sawyer had a more predictable and consistent sprayer.
This strength of Picaridin based insect repellant is nearly impossible to find. (Major drug store had some, but the % of Picaridin was way too low.) Son has gone on mission trip to Panama, and this is the mosquito repellant his doctor told him to get when he went to get his shots for the trip, for Malaria and Dengue/Yellow Fever prevention. The bonuses are that it smells nice, and it does not "eat" your clothes, flip flops, etc - and I am assuming wouldn't affect nail polish the way DEET does. It's in a pump spray bottle, which is much less cumbersome than a big aerosol - and you know how much is in there, which is nice. Hint: He flew from Atlanta to Panama, and arrived at night, which is the worst time. The bottles are too big to clear TSA, so we dispensed some into a travel sized pump bottle and checked the rest in his luggage. He was able to spray it on before he ventured out from the airport.
This is the best protection against ticks! I've had two bouts previously, I feel safe with this product!
I bought this as a recommendation for our one-year old daughter, for a safe mosquito repellant to use on her.
This stuff is greasy, it will make the flooring slippery, so stand on a towel or even better, the grass. It leaves a slick dried on texture on whatever part of your body it's on. Wash your hands immediately, before you accidently put your fingers in your eyes or mouth. And if you just showered, count on showering again before you split the sheets at bedtime. And above all - NO! it does not last 24 hours. Not even 10 hours. More like 4 hours. Just a nasty waste of your time and money. Im being too kind to even give 3 stars, but it will work, for a few hours if you just have to be in a mosquito environment, like gardening.
