The gas containers are a great value. But though no fault of the manufacturing the safety spouts ( same as all other ones made now) they are a real pain to use. Might as well not overpay to be tortured. Again they are nicely made. Do yourself a favor and buy a nice funnel.
This is a well made and engineered Diesel container. Nice size that fits in back of pickup below the rail. The valve nose fits in the tank and allows you to hold the container by the bottom lip and push the valve with the other hand. Actually, I like it better than the old style convoluted plastic hose as the drain spout. The best part is, it is made in America!
bad reviews that I read after ordering this item had me worried, until I received it and used it myself, then I realized that some people simply cant follow instructions.
Diesel container was relatively expensive. Walmart delivered promptly to my home. They have too many safety devices on it. It is very difficult to open the can because of the safety mechanism. It is relatively easy to cut it off. Not so easy to remove the interior filter but it can be done. I have found a way around the safety mechanism to get the fuel back out of the jug. I have to use both hands which makes holding the jug at the same time impossible.
the safety control and ease of use is bad. IT is difficult to use so far. The price of the product was excellent and I will find a way around the difficulty but I really dont like the handle on this.
I bought two of these. Both of them leak very badly that I had gas all over my shoes, hands, shirt, pants, and legs. I had to throw away the shoes. I had two other people try to tighten the lid. I also don't understand why they make you have to hold the release with one hand and try to pour 5 gallons (in an odd position) out with the other. I hardly ever leave bad reviews but, these cans are worthless.
I am 63 yrs old, so when I say this is the WORST Fuel Container EVER!!! I started using fuel cans when they were really cans, metal. Back then (1965) when Dad gave 25 cents, that would get a gallon of gas and 5 pieces of candy. This can 1st of all only has 1 handle on the top. The fill nozzle of course on the top side with a 90' angle. So to fill a tank you have to tilt the container at a 90' angle. The handle is totally useless on the top of the container. 2nd, the nozzle may conform to Government Regulations, but does not vent well. Your holding 5 gallons of fuel with a handle in the wrong position and the fuel is slowly going GULP _ _ _ _ GULP _ _ _ _ GULP, VERY SLOWLY!!! As soon as I use the diesel out of it, IT GOES IN THE TRASH.
It's a large container but, it doesn't make any difference on the size if you can't open it. After three different people tried to open it up I just took off the entire top put my diesel in there and then screwed it back on. When I want you pour it into my mower I take everything off again and Port directly out of the canister. I'll have to hunt for a different one some other place.
I picked up this container up at Walmart not thinking it would leak. Filled it up on the way home and noticed the container leaking in my pickup truck bed. Lost about a quart in a 15 minute drive. I have contacted Walmart store about the problem, they told me they don't return containers that have had fuel in it. My suggestion for future customers is to smell the container for previous use and to also fill container with water to check for leaks prior to filling with expensive fuel. I have several of these type of containers with fuel in them and never had a container leak.
When filling, the diesel pump end is the same size as the fill hole. And it barely goes in. When pumping fuel there is no where for the displaced air in the can to go. So it sprays fuel all over the place. I had to hold the pump so that fuel would Pour into the can slowly. After trial and error I found the only way to transfer the fuel from the can to my tractor quickly was to hold the can upside-down. The air valve would not work in the normal pour position. I'm going to dill a hole in the top of the handle and use a rubber plug to seal it off while stored. At least that way I can get the fuel out nice and easy like my OLD cans.
