Starter lawn

Bob2727272727 July 6, 2025

I used a 1lb bag in a 200 sq ft area to start a new lawn. I hand broadcasted on April 8th. I watered frequently, maybe 3-5 times a day. Temperatures were between 80-90 for the firat month. Germination took a lot longer than i expected, but these are unhulled seeds and temperatures weren't always above 85 daily which is really the sweet spot for this seed. It started sprouting after ten days, and didn't fully finish germinating for about 30 days. If I could do it all over again, I would. It was cheap and looks great. I recommend you grow it to 2 inches before your first cut, then as the summer gets going, especially if its your dry season like it is here, push it to three inches. My lawn had a set back from heat stress because I cut it too short, its roots were undeveloped, and because I tried switching to once a day watering. Definitely would not have the same lawn if I didn't switch back to watering 3-5 times a day. I still do that on 100+ days without rain. Hopefully when August and September come and temps drop back down into the low 90s and 80s I can cut back on frequency. Thanks Scott's!!

Having pretty good results with Scotts!

Janeth June 21, 2021

Well I'm almost at three weeks after planting my grass seed and I have all kinds of little patches of seed coming up so Im pleased. I have found where I placed straw over it, it has done better. It helps with the seed run off when you plant it as well. I used 3 bags of 10 lb seed for about 1/3 of a acre. Im keeping my fingers crossed.

Terrible coverage

paul July 29, 2021

In what area got covered by the seed I bought it has come up nicely but the coverage is nowhere near what it says on the bag it should be .It covered only about half of the advertised area and I was using a Scotts spreader set at the recommended settings (3 1/4 on bare areas and 2 on overseed areas)

Bermuda Grass Seed

BBurke May 18, 2022

It's been a month since I planted the seed. I aerated the yard, waited until temps remained in the 70's (quickly went into the 80's), and watered it every day. There is still no grass yet - very, very frustrating and disappointing.
