I've been using Seagate external hard drives for at least 20 years now and I have found them to be very dependable and well built for a very reasonable priced external hard drives. Seagate external hard drives are the best option that you can get as far as I'm concerned. I won't buy anything else, some of my 4TB portable drives are reaching the 20 year mark and they're still going strong. The read and write speeds are great, I do a lot of photo editing and video editing and I need hard drives that won't fail under pressure of immense use. They never let me down, and that's why I keep buying them. My most recent purchases were the big 32TB and 6TB desktop expansion drives, and they work seamlessly with my Mac's.
This Desktop Hard Drive worked very well. I was able to transfer a lot of files from the internal Hard Drive to save a lot of space which made the desktop run faster. No issues with this Drive.
I recently ran low on drive space for my workstation in my office and since it is a mini cpu by HP, it is limited for space internally. I looked up externals and saw great reviews for this Seagate external drive, the price and storage size is all great. It was 100% plug and play, fired right up and now I store construction project packages here so I could always have them on hand in the event we need them again later for future projects. It has more drive space than our servers have and cost less than $300 ! You can't beat the deal, it is quite small, fast and virtually silent!
it's 20 tb but windows says 18 (common) expected, if I got the 12tb and only 10 tb I'd be upset, / what to expect, little noisy on a plastic rubber maid table , use thick book and mouse pad or a heavy wooden desk, / would've been helpful to know I should should've formatted to ntfs. then it would work with my current nas (USB) , but it took 2-3 days to copy over 10+ tb , speeds were steady not as impressive as ssds , I was in no rush, robocopy.exe ! with recovery warranty making it that much better,
I've bought several of these drives over the years. They've always worked well for me and I've never had any problems. I tend to backup a lot of media so the Seagate Expansion are a great price per TB. #sweepstakes
Great product. Low noise and decent heat. Reports indicate the drive is an SMR with HAMR technology, so its life expectancy and performance are excellent. Did a full preclear and stressed the drive with no issues.
I purchased the 6TB external drive for a Time Machine backup on my MAC. My previous 4TB external died (also Seagate). This one runs quiet and in the background. Time will tell if it holds up. the previous drive did not meet my expectations on longevity.
Great capacity. Transfer speeds are nowhere near as fast as described on all of my systems. Drive keeps going into a stand by mode if not used for 1 minute and then the movies / games on the drive freeze. No way to turn off spin down mode in the settings. You either constantly use the drive or it "spins down" and goes to sleep and takes a full minute to come back online. Would go with a different brand next time for the price..
I bought 2 external hard drives. One failed within a week. I had to pay to get a replacement. Factor in failures and returns to whatever price you see. The drive failed to write within 5 days. I couldn't even format it. Fortunately the drive could be read from for another few days.
Got a great price on this Seagate close out. I decided to get one to shuck for use in my Plex server. I wanted full SATA I/O speed not compromised by a USB 3.1 connection. It failed in under a week. Nothing else to say here really. SMART indicated multiple 180+ bad sectors.
