Used during an ice storm and it worked well. Melted through a mound of ice covered snow that was as hard as a rock and impossible to shovel. Sprinkled a little on top of the frozen snow and it melted it into a slush that was easy to remove. It's safer for pets as well but still use caution.
I looked all over town to try to find the ice melt itself worked very well and quite quickly . I also like the fact that it was safe for my walkway and safe for pets ice melt. It wasn't until I placed a food delivery order, that I ran across it at Walmart. I was so excited.
I like the product due to the fact that it's safe for animals. the only thing I didn't like is that it's like a rock salt and if you have little cracks in your boots or your shoes, whatever you wear, you're going to track it into your house no matter what you do, but that is my only complaint. it does a great job melting the ice and snow.
We got this because it is one of the safest compounds for dogs, CMA (calcium magnesium acetate). I'm happy that they call it "pet-safer" because it's still not ideal. It is better than almost anything else. Unfortunately, it does not work as well as the toxic stuff. You have to use a lot of it to get rid of ice. And, it is a bit pricey per pound. There are two things I use that are safer. First, sand. Sand does not bother dogs at all. They don't eat it, and if you brush off their paws when they come inside, it will have no after effects on the dog. Sand is not ideal because it stays there even after all the snow and ice are gone. It has to be cleaned up and it can affect grass and vegetation. The second one is also pricey but it is absolutely safe for dogs and people. It generally does not damage grass or plants. That is because it is also a food-safe compound: Propylene Glycol. This is a liquid that you dilute with water and spray on areas you want to clear BEFORE IT SNOWS. It will often melt the ice and snow before you even go outside. I used it this winter and my neighbors wanted to know why my walkways and driveways were clear, when they went out to shovel. Propylene glycol is a food additive so it is completely non-toxic. Note, this is NOT Ethylene Glycol, that is poison for everything. The disadvantage is that you have to spray it again after a large storm or rain. It is worth it for the number of times I did not have to do anything after a storm. It will not melt several inches of snow from a bigger storm. But when you go out to shovel, you can just push the snow and slush (instead of ice) away. The surfaces comes clean and dissolves whatever you did not push away. But, when I get more snow than the Propylene Glycol can manage, or if I forgot to spray it, Snow Joe Melt Pet-Safer is my next go-to for safety.
I never got until after the storm and it isn't really pet friendly. Poor dog and other pets paws. It is really hard too getting salt out of a bag like these. I think all salt should come with their own plastic container. I just wouldn't get it again.
I paid over $25 for this bag. I learned that It sells for just over $10 at several other stores. It's wrong that customers that customers are charged so much more. The seller is taking advantage of customers like myself who are disabled and have to rely on online orders or others for supplies some I need. I would not buy this product again. It just works ok. It took awhile to melt the ice and it didn't continue to melt the snow that fell on it. The bag reads safer for Pets but the ingredients aren't much safer than regular salt for roads. I carried my chihuahua to my car to avoid it getting it on his paws which was quite difficult.
I need to be contacted. I placed my online order and went to pick up. Waited 55 minutes for 2 bags of ice melt for a total of $24. The worst online pickup service ever. Called the online pickup service number 10 times, no answer. Called the main store number, that said call the pickup number. In total, wasted an hour of my life waiting for a couple of simple items since I have a broken ankle. Every other retailer had this process figured out, not Walmart.
I never received it and I can't communicate that with anyone on your team! So yes. Extremely disappointed. I'm trying to find alternatives to Amazon and I was hoping I could count on Walmart. Unfortunately, it seems you are not a reliable alternative.
The item was supposed to be delivered today, 1/23 and it has not even been shipped yet. The third party vendor did not notify of the delay until I sent them three messages. I could've bought the salt somewhere else in time for the storm. Thanks Wal mart. Now I can't find and available. I hope I don't slip and break my neck after this ice storm. Do better
Will stain your carpet! I dried my boots on the rug and towel, came and sat in the living room and an hour later there is a yellow stain where my shoe/feet were. I had noticed dried yellow something on my kitchen tile, I thought the kids spilled something. Guess when tracked in the house and melts it stains stuff yellow
