This is a great simple mess kit that is bigger than the single, but not too big for a backpack. The kit straps closed well and there is enough room for a small towel (which would also keep rattling to a minimum) and other small items like a lighter or matches. The pot, pan and plates are all thick enough that they will not get bent easily. The two plastic cups are a little flexible, so they may not do well with hot liquids (I have not tried). They have graduated lines at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 cup on the inside for measuring. The grabber is sturdy and securely grabs the rim of the pan, pot and plates. You can use the pan as a lid for the pot and visa versa, but there is not a good way to remove them. You will need a towel or hot pad to take them off. There are two metal side loops on the pot and one on the pan. These are used exclusively to hold the strap when packing up the kit. Unfortunately the grabber can't grab them. I suppose you could attach a wire to the pot this way to hang it over a fire. Over all this is a great, inexpensive mess kit that is light weight, but sturdy enough to last a long time. Enjoy!

This set may not hold up to long extended hard use, but for an occasional hiking excursion or emergency situation will work out great. Light weight and easy to carry.

We just used it as a bowl/plate for a overnight camping trip. It not try to cook with it, but it served its purpose.

Picked these up to put together a couple of traveling emergency kits together for our cars. Not heavy duty, but something you'd be happy to have when in a pinch. They would be alright for a young scout or camper. A newby you can say. This kit is nice because the type of handle used to lift a pot on

It is a great way to get stuff and be able to pick it up without having to find it. I did have one issue it was supposed to be a 2 man mess kit and got it home andit was only for 1 person. They showed it to me well the box that it came in that was it.
