I put this on a 12 jetta tdi back window, i scraped off an inch of the defroster grid lines to have a perfect coupling, then reconnected and rerouted the circuit over the top of the coupling box inside with a conductive pen using a straight edge. Seems to be working terrific! All local stuff within 5 miles is full five bars on the digital readout. P. S. In case anybodys going crazy trying to find out, the 12 vw jetta tdi, does NOT have passivated glass. Goidluck.

Good deal

It sticks to the window better than I would have expected, and appears to have good range for picking up police calls..

Wish the whip was not so long/high and the mount is slightly larger than expected. At least 2 inch contact surface where I was expecting 1" to 1 1/2" surface.

Improved signal reception quality

Spiceman1022 April 22, 2016

Since I enjoy listening to my Uniden BC125AT scanner, while driving my 2011 Chevy HHR around in Phx. AZ, I thought I would give this Tram 1199 Glass Mount All-Band Scanner Antenna a try, for improved reception. The HHR has factory tinted glass, so there was a concern that the antenna would not work. However, since the tint is laminated within the glass, and is not metallic ... turns out that it seems to work just fine. I would say that this antenna has resulted in improved signal reception quality, for all of my "conventional" (non-digital) radio channels, as compared to having the "rubber duck" antenna in place. I also tested the Tram 1199 with my Uniden BCD996XT Trunk Tracker Scanner. Using this scanner, I discovered that the higher frequency "digital trucked" channels would not lock-on consistently, and reception was kind of hit-and-miss. Didn't seem to work good enough for the "digital trucked" channels, however, when I switched to the lower frequency "conventional" channels, it worked fine. So in conclusion ... I'd say that the Tram 1199 works better than having a "rubber duck" antenna in place inside the vehicle, as long as you're listening to "conventional" channels. I like it ... easy to install, cable is detachable from the interior base, excellent quality product, looks cool on the car, and I would recommend.

Purchased to receive the VHF Lo and VHF Hi simulcast of calls dispatched and the 800 Mhz comms during the response. Can't say it is pulling in the signals the way I like, especially VHF.

Of Course this is not nearly as good as a permanent mount or magnetic mount. but it does a fair job for the money
