I had heard what great benefits not only for cooking but also for your health that carbon steel can deliver, but was hesitant to purchase knowing that there's some care in the upkeep of this pan. I decided to try this one mainly because I have this same brand of stainless steel set pots and pans at home. I'm very glad that I decided to choose this particular pan overall. The seasoning process is simple to follow and the instructions that come with the pan are also easy to follow along. We've been using this pan for a couple of weeks now and have had no issues, no sticking, working as it should. I do recommend for the price point!. This is a great starter carbon steel pan I feel and it will be with me many years of cooking! I know there are more expensive pans out there, but at this point, I really don't see what the need would be to purchase another one.
I bought this pan to try to minimize our use of nonstick pans. There's a learning curve to developing the seasoning on the pan (and to not accidentally scrape it off). I'm very happy with it. It's a great price for a good quality pan. An added bonus-- it weighs much less than my cast iron pans.
Best value for a Carbon Steel skillet. No grumbles, but some advice: When you unpack it, you MUST CLEAN IT TO REMOVE WAXY COATING, BEFORE you start seasoning it. I washed mine with dish soap, pretty well, but not perfectly. As I've started seasoning it, the oil gets splotchy, not smooth. My recommendation is to use a cleansing agent like Barkeepers Friend. It is a better solvent for this coating. Then, proceed with your seasoning. Good shape, long enough handle, deep enough for sauces and for reduction in oil splattering.
Great skillet, we have 2. Sturdy, has some weight to it. Easy to clean. It's like having a cast iron skillet.
Best pan I have now and it is a work horse. Just treat well and it gives back in return.
Overall this was a very good deal for the price I paid (it was on sale at the time). It's a good balance between weight and the thickness needed for good performance. It does warp very slightly on an induction stove, which causes a bulge at the bottom that prevents it from sitting flat. This is not uncommon with induction and carbon steel pans but something to be aware of.
First time trying carbon steel. Is a replacement for my old non stick pan which the coating was starting to come off. This pan is heavier than my old 12 inch non stick T-fal one. Maybe 5 pounds. The handle is a bit uncomfortable as the edges can dig into your hand. I do like the non-stickness of this pan. I mostly been using it to cook omelettes. There is a slight sticking but will come off. I find it best cooking at burner level number 5 which is the knob halfway when I'm making omelettes. For the price it is a good pan for non stick alternative.
Heavier than expected and the handle wasn't comfortable
I received the pan without a grip. The bare metal handle is attached but the grip slips on/off. The wording described the grip, but in the picture, that I could barely make out, appears to be all there. I had no problem returning it to a nearby Walmart store and bought another with a grip.
This is just as difficult as cast iron. Even after being seasoned, everything stick and it rusts if you look at it too hard.
