I have a 1970s era Chevy SB 350 engine which has a tick with a varying sound at normal operating temperature. I suspect that it may be a lifter that is not holding pressure. So, before I replace the lifter(s). I thought that I would try this top quality motor oil. It seems to have quieted the noise some. Time will tell.
The products I ordered were fine but every time I order from Walmart they deliver to my neighbor's house. When they are home its not so bad but when they are gone, I have to whate until they get home before I can get my package because I'm not going to go to someones door and grab a package. Usually, they take it inside and open it thinking it is theirs. Walmart is the only place that keeps delivering to my neighbor's house. It's beginning to get frustrating. My address numbers are on the pole that my gate is on, so I don't know what the problem is. I wish this could get fixed. One time I ran out to the gate and tried to flag the delivery person down, but they just looked at me and kept driving. Products, good! Delivery sucks!!! This is why I haven't purchased the Yearly delivery service. I am now looking for another company to deliver the products I need so I will get them delivered to my house.
Two vehicles with flat tappet cams need the zinc in VR 1. Valvoline has a great history with lubricating the engines of all vehicles. It comes highly recommended by many mechanics. Better price with it than some of the other zinc-oriented oils you can purchase.
Valvoline VR-1 is the best, most accessible, most fairly priced engine oil for flat tappet collector cars. It has enough zinc to protect older engines from oil film breakdown. Probably not the best for cars with catalytic converters that consume a lot of oil but if you don't buy an oil with appropriate additives for older engines, you're going to have to add them with a supplement anyway. Besides, replacing a catalytic converter is a whole lot easier than replacing a valve train. Valvoline products tend to be the best, most consistent, and most widely available. They're not always the cheapest but excellent engine oil is cheap insurance.
Very good product but I wish it was a little more competitively priced. Don't we all wish that about almost everything these days?)
May be the best oil around if you have a older designed engine with flat tapped cam or any pushrod engine. Quality oil formulation with alot of zinc for protection of said engine designs.
This product is not available in the local parts stores. The Walmart price was better than anywhere else and the shipping was free. Perfect for a retired person on a budget.
Oil is made for older cars and is not stocked in most stores or is sold out quick.I ordered on line and received a refund . When will you stock 10w30 5 quart jugs at York Commons in Dayton Ohio? Please respond Thanks
VR1 is a great high zinc option for classic cars. My 401 nailhead needs it due to having a flat tappet cam, and this is a great option for low cost. Walmart definitely has the best pricing.
Conventional oil has a shelf life of 3 to 5 years. I ordered this oil in September 2025. The date code on the bottles indicated this oil was manufactured in October of 2022. This product is near the end of its shelf life. From now on I will not order oil online. I will purchase it directly from the store and check its manufacture date prior to purchase.
