I bought this grill to replace my 14" Smokey Joe. I love the Weber brand but I wanted a slightly bigger cooking area, so I went with the Jumbo Joe. I love the size. I love the Weber quality, shape and durability. I love the lid holder on the Jumbo Joe; it seems to function.quite well and is handy for the lid when I flip food during cooking. I didn't love that the handle is acrylic as opposed to wood, but only time will tell if it holds up; the acrylic handle hasn't bothered me while grilling. I'm a die-hard fan of Weber charcoal grills in the 14" and now 18" sizes.
Great grill that I bought for my 9-year-old grandson. This is plenty of space for cooking and it's easy to use very well balanced so it won't tip. With supervision he's thoroughly enjoys this. He's turning out to be quite a cook in his cooked everything from chicken to hamburgers and steaks.
Perfect size to travel with and still create cooking zones. The lid latch/storage is ingenious. Bigger than my Smokey Joe and smaller than my Performer. Love it!
This is my third Webber and like the previous two, another exelent product. Loved every thing we have cooked on it and we intend taking it with us on our next RV trip. Small enough to carry with us, large enough cooking surface to feed the whole family.
This is a great bbq if you are going to the beach or anywhere you need a travel size grill. The Grill space is excellent for any cooking adventure.
Originally I was planning on buying the next size larger from researching but at the store, I realized this size was perfect for what I wanted. We travel extensively by RV so this size is best. I prefer cooking on charcoal and this grill is easy to control the heat.
After Decades of Weber Gas Grills, I wanted to try my hand at Smoking some Ribs on a Real Charcoal Grill. I had the original Smokey Joe when I just got out of high school, but I wanted a larger grill for more grilling/BBQ possibilities without breaking the bank. The Jumbo Joe fit the bill perfectly! I love the locking lid to make it truly portable in a safe/non messy way. I prefer this over the 18" Weber Kettle on wheels, and its less expensive! I've done three separate Ribs smokes, and a night of Burgers on the Jumbo so far, and all came out perfect. I forgot how much tastier food is on charcoal vs gas! After watching many online videos, I've come to realize that Grilling/BBQ on a Weber Kettle actually has better control (IMO) than my gas grills. On one occasion I did wish for a bit more room to smoke more ribs (I tried the Rib Rack, and do not like how they lean on each other, I feel they don't smoke/cook as even as just laying flat - returned the rib rack). After further research, and using a compilation of Ideas, I made myself a removable/adjustable second tier using a Smokey Joe (14") Grill grate and stainless steel hardware. Now I can almost double the volume of food on my Jumbo. It can also be used as a warmer to separate from the hotter main grate. We have also used the Jumbo as a small portable Fire Pit, which was actually the original Idea for the use of the Jumbo Joe, at time of purchase. So, basically I have two great outdoor appliances for the very reasonable price of one! We Love our Jumbo Joe!
I have owned Weber grills all my life. I'm a charcoal grilling guy. Bought the 14" portable Joe 10 years back for camping but too small when cooking for 4 people. So for years I put one of my 22" grills in the camper for our trips. Kind of a pain but it worked. THEN the 18" Joe came along! So much versatility, quick to clean up and easily fits in the camp trailer. Thank You Weber!
Nice grill for a couple or small family. Use a chimney to light the charcoal and you'll be grilling just as quickly as with a gas grill. It is easy to control the heat of the fire with the top and bottom dampers. And the food tastes better, too. If someone as mechanically disinclined as I am can put it together, so can you.
Webber lost their way as far as Craftsmanship. New jumbo joe came with a couple of nicks that were rusted in bowl where 2 of the legs attached coating not as thick as it once was. Customer service did not help either. They sent me the wrong half. Needed the bottom bowl but I got a lid instead. Brought it back to the store. The new lid however fit my 18 inch new old smokie that I purchased instead I'm officially no longer a Webber fan.
