Zatarain's Gumbo Mix, 7.0 oz Box

I was excited to try that product after we visited New Orleans and some delicious gumbo. I made this one night after work, it was quick and easy to use. I added some sausage and chicken and served it with some cornbread and it was delicious. I'm glad to have something satisfy my NOLA cravings.

Zatarains Gumbo Mix is the best and only acceptable box option! And that's coming from a genuine cajun. The depth of flavor captured in this mix along with the tender rice is perfect and spot on whether youre making seafood or chicken and sausage gumbo! Personally, polks cajun sausage and tender shredded chicken is my favorite additives with this box mix that is on rotation!

Zatarain's Gumbo Mix provides with an easy and quick fix for Gumbo. Start to finish in approximately 30 minutes. This mix combines long-grain parboiled rice with a seasoned roux, red and green bell peppers, onion, and spices. All you need to do is add your protein of choice, sausage, chicken , shrimp or a combination of protein to make the perfect Gumbo for your family. Flavorful and quick for an easy weeknight meal.

I recieved this as a free taste test from bzzagent to try and review. This was a nice quick easy meal that offers a lot of customization. It was good ans turned out well but being from a cooking background having a homemade version with real quality ingredients would blow this away. All in all for what it was I was satisfied.

This mix is great for anyone looking to whip up a delicious, authentic gumbo without the hassle of starting from scratch. The flavor is rich and well-balanced, providing just the right blend of spices that really captures the essence of traditional Creole cuisine. Just follow the simple instructions, add your choice of protein and veggies, and you're ready to enjoy a hearty meal in no time. It's a lifesaver on busy weeknights or when hosting friends and family! I also appreciate that the mix is versatile—you can tweak it to suit your taste, whether you prefer a spicier kick or a milder flavor.

I will say I have not had gumbo before this. That being said, it was not my favorite. It was a bit reminiscent of Japanese curry cubes but with the rice and veggies included. I followed the instructions on the box and it turned out a bit too watery for my taste. I can't imagine that was how it was supposed to be. I noticed the powder wasn't fully dissolved either. The flavor was good though and having everything in a single box was very convenient.

I made a pot of this for dinner tonight and it turned out amazing. The mix on its own has a really good, authentic flavor with just enough spice to keep it interesting. I ended up throwing in some sliced smoked turkey sausage, and honestly, that took it over the top. The smoky flavor soaked into the broth and rice so well. It tasted like I spent hours making a roux from scratch, but it only took a fraction of the time. Will definitely be keeping a box of this in the pantry for quick weeknight meals!

I have a family gumbo recipe that I am loyal to, so I was a little skeptical in trying this boxed mix. The first thing I noticed was the lack of rice. That's a personal preference, but more on that later. The second thing is this mix has a little spicy kick to it, so if you're feeding young ones or those sensitive to spice, be aware of that. I like my gumbo with a little more filé and over rice, making it hearty. I made extra rice and added it to my bowl. Instead of one protein, I added chicken breast and sausage— I like to brown the sausage before adding it so it doesn't break down in the soup. Making gumbo from scratch is about a half-day process for me, and this took about 30 minutes from start to finish, and it was really good. I'm giving it 4 stars because nothing beats a family recipe, but I would definitely buy this again. (Zararain's sent me this free sample through the BzzAgent sampling program.)

I received this product for free in exchange for writing the review. Zatarain's Gumbo was absolutely delicious! Excellent flavor & satisfying. I'll definitely make again! Highly recommend!
