Nice cut hearts of palm. They work perfectly in sandwiches or salads. The shelf life was not tested since we eat them fairly quickly. Sodium levels are better than those of other brands. I am happy with this purchase.
The hearts of palm are very tasty and a very good products been eating these for years in salad or dipped in ranch or eat right out of the can.
Been using Vigo products for decades...back to my childhood. Mom came from Italy @ 17yrs...two of the names in her kitchen were VIGO %26 CENTO. Both are still quality food products...
my review on this item probably isn't fair because I'm not used to the taste or Texture of hearts of palm I was just looking for something new to put in my salad. I didn't really care for it

Have you ever had dented cans delivered or been given to you in your groceries pickup? Do you ever wonder why a responsible store delivers dented canned food, especially when "everyone knows, that you don't eat food from dented cans". Risking Salmonella, food poisoning and such nasties. "Everyone knows that you don't eat what's in dented cans" - or do they? If 'everybody' knows that food in dented cans is dangerous, then why does Walmart deliver such cans? "Everyone knows that food in dented cans are not safe to eat"...Walmart and it's employees know that, right? Three cans of Hearts of Palm are sitting right here, part of my delivery by Walmart; dented so bad that I doubt that a can opener will be able to handle them. Why am I even thinking of using the can opener - "everyone knows.... ? Yeah, well, I wasn't one who knew. I actually wasn't certain whether eating these Hearts of Palm was risky (I had been so looking forward to a nice side of Hearts of Palm). In the past I have used Coconut milk from dented cans, also delivered by Walmart. But today I needed to know whether it was safe for me to eat these, was I being stupid. I honestly didn't know. So I looked it up on the internet. Found an official site. Some of what I read: .."that the danger depends on the type and size of dent, and even where that dent is, and the age of the can". And this information actually started with - "as everyone knows, you don't eat food from a dented can". Yep. So there... It then occurred to me to ask, if dents mattered so much, then why do manufacturers of canned food don't just toss them dented ones out? Why does Walmart even have dented cans? That is where part of the problem with dented cans actually starts. Where they can food. Manufacturers try to keep dented cans from getting to the market, but when it comes to a large number and losing money, then it appears that dented cans become a problem for us customers, an unsolved problem. Should they keep ALL dented cans from going to market, who pays for them? weighing the cost of doing so, how to balance their accounts. Or what? It's a matter of price increase to cover loss, or something like that. From what I read, Manufacturers, canning manufacturers, can't decide how to meet the costs of waste vs income, Profit vs. Safety. Of course not all dented cans originated from manufacturers, there is shipping and delivery, and a lot of people in between. A lot happens between canning and final delivery of my groceries, like dropping a box full of cans maybe?. Yes, I read all that on the internet. How big business can't seem to decide how to handle dented cans, covering costs, whether to discard or ignore the risky dents. Along the way someone decides that dents don't matter. What happened to quality control? And so it is that dented canned food is passed on from canning to shipping on to store shelves, and then eventually it shows up in my pantry. It's not really that simple, but I have already writt
I love hearts of palm on my salads, and though this might be a nice one to try since the palms are already cut down in bite size pieces. While they taste good, I find that the palm bits are somewhat on the tough side. And they are not at all cut to match the picture on the label (which are nice little consistent rounds). Instead, the cuts are all random sizes and shapes, not one of them round. I had to sort through them and cut down most of them to match a consistent size. The cuts are not attractive, so would not want to add these to a salad directly if I were taking it to a potluck or dinner. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed with these hearts of palm.
Both cans were heavily damaged and the product seemed to be contaminated. I threw away.
THINK THIS REVIEW A BIT HARSH? WELL AS HAS BEEN THE CASE WITH TINNED ITEMS DELIVERED FROM WALMART Vigo Foods 14oz Vigo Hearts of Palm Salad Cut DENTED. UNFORTUNATELY I TOSSED IT TO THE TRASH.....
I usually love this product, but don't order it online from Walmart. It will come dented, crushed, and unusable every single time.
