As a bachelor cooker I am saying aw shucks, wish I knew about this very convenient meat dish a long time ago. It has too much sugar in my opinion, but this is a very thick sauce you have to spoon out of the flip-top can. It could be thinned some with ketchup when using it for the traditional presentation on an open toasted hamburger bun(whole grain of course). I mostly eat Asian style meals now so when I noticed the sweetness of the single serving pouch I tried recently, I immediately thought of sweet and sour! A little 4 oz single serving cup of GV pineapple tidbits stirred into this can, with most of the juice included, makes a hearty satisfying sweet and sour pork topping for hot rice or ramen noodles. I'm so sold on this I just ordered four more cans. I have been wondering why we can't buy more canned cooked pork or canned ground meats and this product comes close to satisfying that demand for a reasonable price in a seasoned sauce. Heat and eat, as fast as opening a can of sardines! In my experience, this is not an excessively fatty product.
A little pricey but it's ssoooooo yum!🤤 On some ritz crackers, toasted %26 plain bread, or even by itself… good to keep around for a quick snack when ur in need for something you have to have right now.
This is a surprisingly tasty and high quality product. The meat is tender, lean, and it comes in a very tasty BBQ sauce that is great over rice. Very reasonably priced, as well. The only problem I have is that Walmart doesn't seem to want to offer it for delivery very often. Once in a blue moon you'll find it available to ship.
This is for when I just want a couple of BBQ sandwiches for Hubs and me. I add some BBQ sauce I have on hand. It's a pretty decent meal without having to cook a whole pork roast.
This was much, much better tasting than the disappointing taste of the Great Value canned beef. It tastes slightly better than the refrigerated tub of Lloyd's Shredded Pork. It is almost as good as the Jack Daniel's pulled pork. I only wish that it cost a bit less.
It's not really what I expected in a pulled pork, for example, like Jack Daniels. There are a few large chunks and many very small bits suspended in liquid, not separated bundles of muscle fiber. It didn't really work for the sandwiches I planned. I used it over rice and it was OK for that. I'm thinking maybe I could mix it with rice and beans for a burrito filling. Salty, as others have said.
Watery and unappealing out of the can. 3 lumps of meat and brown water. Now, if you whisk it all up, you get a thin meat paste that, although unappealing looking, tastes like rhe sloppy joes my high school cafeteria had in the early 80s. I actually kinda liked those so 2 1/2 stars. Little too messy for sandwich but ok for SOS. 4 3plus bucks you could spare another meat lump.
someone described it as drippings from the bottom of a pan. i agree. they need to pull this off the shelf. not tasty didn't smell good reminded me of dog food as I open the can. lots of sauce, but little teeny drippings of meat. waste of money. embarrassed I even tried it on a sandwich.
The only reason I think that this may actually be pork is there was one piece about 1 inch square that looked like meat, the rest was mush. The taste was awful, the dogs were not even impressed. Go to the frozen section if you want BBQ ready to eat.
OK, it tastes good, and it is inexpensive, BUT, it is NOT mostly meat as shown on the label. Each can has 5 pieces of tablespoon size meat, and the rest is liquid with a tiny amount of very small shredded meat. I bought 6 cans, all about the same. If you don't mind that, throw it in with some rice to soak up the liquid, and you got a good cheap meal.
