Simple, good price, solid performance. Note: If you want maximum storage on a Windows PC, reformat it to NTFS. I had an old 4TB WD external drive, formatted NTFS, about 3 TB on it. When I picked this new one up the old drive's data wouldn't transfer - turns out it was related to the exFAT cluster size, it couldn't handle a bunch of relatively small files, ate up too much space. (Reformat to NTFS worked fine) NOTE2: This drive doesn't come with the old WD wdstor app (which worked quite well). If you would like equivalent functionality check out the robocopy command available in Powershell. It's very easy to craft a small script with a couple of robocopy commands, then have Windows run it as a task (e.g., at 2am each night, or once a week, or...) (neither of the above two Notes are negatives to me)

Small, fast, high storage capacity for pictures and important videos. We store our vacation videos and pictures on this device. it's a lot easier and cheaper to back up pictures and videos then it is to recreate them. It connects via USB C connector and transfers data really fast. You can protect the data on the drive using a password and the hard drive is encrypted using hardware based encryption which speeds it up.

I was somewhat surprised that this portable drive was available at Walmart at the cheapest price. I already had a WD 2 TB drive, but I needed more space for video and picture backups. I opted for the slightly older model of the WD 4 TB, being a few bucks cheaper, and I didn't need all the newer encryption features. Installation could not be easier. Just plug it in and wait a few seconds, a you've got a whole new HDD drive. I use it as a backup for my home PC. I get transfer rates from 50 to 80 MB/sec (much faster than flash thumb drives). The device is small enough (about 4 x 5 x 0.75 inch) to stick in a drawer or safety deposit box for safekeeping.

This little device, although it looks small. It has 4TB of storage space for your computer. I have downloaded my files from my desktop and laptop. They haven't even put a dent in this little device's storage capacity. It's great for backing up your files, your pictures. All the essential things you have on your computer. And once you get. Put in a safe space if you start adding more information. Get it back out, and add that information to it as well. Is money well spent?

I have had 1 and 2TB WD hdds for years and their excellent as is this 4TB one.The only thing I wish is that it didn't have a power supply as it's just one more thing I have to keep up with.

Purchased as an external drive for Tablo DVR. It has been working flawlessly and gives me all the room I need to record over-the-air programming. There hasn't been any speed buffering or glitches. Glad I chose this one for my new 4-tuner Tablo.

I am using it for my laptop. It's small but big on storage. I have to save many emails for my work-at-home projects. Storage capacity is 4 terabytes.

Pros: 2.5"HDD(compact size, less heat), USB3.2 > HDD speed, <$ than other portable HDD Cons: MfgDate2yrWarranty, (HDD unknown) most slower than 3.5"HDD, ~5200RPM, SMR These are good (cost size) for offline, long-term storage (disk image, data). Generally, 2.5"HDD are designed for enclosed space (low-heat) and power-saving, where as 3.5"HDD are designed for fan cooling and performance. Over many years used muffin fan to cool 3.5"HDDs for reliability (after 3.5" portable cooked). Large trasfer/copies: use small fan to cool case and/or breakup into smaller parts, allowing HDD to cool inbetween. Important data = multiple backups locations, refresh every < 5years (HDD).

The box was taped shut and had no chord that was listed as included, thus the item was unusable. The box also had a label on it that listed a random person's name and a delivery date of Dec 21. Despite these details, customer service reps insisted this was a new item. This entire transaction ultimately ended up being a complete waste of time. For the return process to be finalized, a FedEx driver will pick up the item anytime between 9:00 am - 7:00 pm. This is quite a lengthy window of time to have to wait for a pick-up, which is far from considerate to a customer's time. Poor job by Walmart all around.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM. I had it for less than 2 weeks before it began to start clicking and now I am having difficulties retrieving the data from it without paying an arm and a leg for a data retrieval service. Customer service at least refunded the money and allowed me to keep this device while I try to stay hopeful to retrieve that data from it. But I am doubtful. Again, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM.
