because we bought this marinara sauce before I felt I could give an excellent review even though we bought 12 of them for when the government was shut down and the snap benefits were shut off for people in this area in Maine.. but I'm sure the families who got this marinara sauce were pleased.
I used this for a homeade chicken parm recipe I found, and I found it was amazing , so tasty, right amounts of spice, and chunky tomatoes. I was pleased , as this was not watered down like some others I have tried. I found it a great flavor profile, and it paired good with the cheeses and chicken I used in the recipe.
I have tried countless store-bought pasta sauces over the years, but I always find myself coming back to Bertolli Traditional Marinara. For the price and convenience, you honestly cannot find a better balance of flavor and texture. What makes it a 5-star sauce for me: The Flavor Profile: It has a deep, vine-ripened tomato taste that doesn't feel artificial. The blend of Italian herbs and fresh garlic is noticeable but not overpowering. It's also one of the few sauces that isn't overly acidic or sugary—it tastes like it's been simmering on a stove for hours. Perfect Consistency: I hate watery sauces that pool at the bottom of the plate. This marinara is thick and 'chunky' in the best way possible, so it actually clings to the pasta. Versatility: While it's perfect over a simple bowl of spaghetti, I've used it for Chicken Parmigiana, as a dipping sauce for mozzarella sticks, and even as a base for homemade pizza. It holds its own every time. Reliability: It's consistent. Every jar I buy tastes exactly like the last one, which is a lifesaver for quick weeknight dinners when I don't have time to 'doctor up' a bland sauce. If you're looking for a sauce that tastes 'homemade' without the 4-hour prep time, this is the one. Definitely a staple in my pantry!
The bright tomato flavor is the star here, with FRESH garlic the best supporting actor. The bright flavor makes it the best choice to enhance some proteins, like chicken or shrimp. The difference between fresh and dried garlic is surprising. The garlic is not overly strong, but the freshness makes it stand out. My usual sauce is Rao's Homemade Marina, which I also love. It has a heartier character that goes well with ground beef and sweet Italian sausage. Each of the two sauces satisfy a different flavor profile to match my cravings. I usually add some or all of these flavors: Mushrooms, fresh chopped onions, fresh ground black pepper, or red pepper flakes ( a little to brighten the flavor; more to bring the heat for an Arrabbiata sauce. ) This bright Bertolli also makes an excellent choice for a pizza sauce!
This sauce is absolutely delicious. From spaghetti to manicotti to dip for cheese sticks, lasagna, chicken parm, baked ziti, meatball subs, stuffed shells, homemade pizza, egg plant parm. The possibilities are endless for this delicious thick robust sauce.
Bertolli is a delicious pasta sauce that is flavorful and not watery like other pasta sauces. I usually mix Bertolli Traditional Marinara sauce with Bertolli Five Cheese sauce when I make lasagna or spaghetti and it is a hit every time in my house.
I use this marinara in my jumbo shell noodles filled with 3 types of cheese, black olives, and portabello mushrooms, it gives the lasagna shells a tangy taste
I have multiple jars of these all the time in my pantry for our busy weeknights with sports. I'll add some ground beef or just plain with some vegetable vegetables. It's fantastic.
Too sweet to me.. I had to add other ingredients due to the sugar in this marinara. It would probably be fine for other people, but not for me. I usually make mine from scratch.
My family would not eat this sauce. They couldn't stand the smell, taste, green spice, the tomato chunks, etc. Therefore I wasted alot of time, effort and ingredients. We will have to stick with Ragu meat sauce! I have made myself a note to never buy this again.
