Makes Fluffy, Tasty Waffles!

CaseyMom December 1, 2015

I've been wanting one of these flip waffle makers ever since I saw T.V. chefs using them. I just thought it was a great idea and turns out, it is! It's super easy to set up and once you figure out how much batter to use, it makes perfectly fluffy waffles. I decided to just use a box waffle mix until I get used to this machine and then I'll start making my own batter. When it first arrived, we took it out of the box, saw the Drip Tray was already in place underneath, and plugged it in. The red light came on to indicate that the power was on. After a few minutes, the green light came on, indicating that the plates were preheated and ready to go. At this time, you unlock the Cool-Touch Handles and open up one side. Then the directions say to put about ¾ of a cup of batter in the center of the cooking plates. But we found that it was best (for us) to use a heaping cupful of batter to get a FULL waffle. Then we closed that side, locked it with the Handle Lock, counted to 10 seconds and rotated the machine over to the other side where we did the same thing. The instructions say to cook about 3-4 minutes (or for crispier waffles, wait another 1-2 minutes), but we found that it takes a little longer to get even browning. Also, don't open up the waffle maker as you are cooking because the instructions say it could cause the waffle to stick or cook poorly. I have to admit that I did open up the waffle maker a couple of times with one or two of the waffles, but only after they had been cooking several minutes and I didn't seem to notice any sticking or anything. Something else we noticed while cooking only one waffle, is that it's best to “FLIP” or Rotate that one waffle every couple of minutes. I don't know why, but when we didn't flip/rotate, one side didn't ever seem to get brown. Also, I do have to agree with one poster who said that it really doesn't ever seem to crisp up the waffles no matter how long you leave them in. This is probably caused by all the “steaming” that goes on from the heat of the plates. I never had any batter drip onto the Drip Tray, but there was some water that dripped down onto the tray and down the front of the handle that came from the steam. As far as cleaning, the first side of plates wiped down really well with no trouble. But the second side had a sticky coating that I had quite a bit of trouble getting off. I ended up using soap and water with a scrubbing sponge. I think, but don't quote me on this, that it might have been caused when I cooked the last waffle by itself and the other side had been coated pretty good with oil (applied with a brush). Since you can't tell this waffle maker to only heat up the one side you might be using, both sides get hot and I think this might have caused the oil to become sticky like those spray on oils from the cans. The next time I only have one waffle left to cook after using both sides, I will remember to wipe down the side I'm not using so that I don't get left with that mess again. Overall I really do like this Black & Decker flip waffle maker and intend to get quite a bit of use out of it!

Great invention

CaliCutie December 1, 2015

Whoever invented these double, flip waffle makers needs a medal. I always loved waffles as a kid and my Mother made them homemade so it was a waiting game for them to cook one at a time. Not only does this cook two at a time it cooks them to perfection. Years ago when Black and Decker started making kitchen appliances I bought a blender and it lasted ages so when I saw a waffle maker and needed a new one it was an easy decision. The machine comes with a drip tray which is smart and the actual batter trays are pretty deep so they almost look like Belgian style which I love. I included a picture to show those nice deep trays. If you want a reliable waffle maker that cooks two perfect waffles at a time I highly recommend this.

"It is really a very good waffle maker - this is my second one. It makes Great Waffles! I gave it a 4 star because it does not have a light or signal to tell you when the waffle is done. You have to watch the steam and ""Guess"" when it is done. But considering the price and the quality of the waffle it still is an excellent product."

Gimme Waffles please.

I received The Black & Decker Double Flip Waffle Maker for my 100% honest review and rating. My Black & Decker Double Flip Waffle Maker arrived well packaged and in great condition. It was easy to unbox, insert the drip pan on the bottom, and use right after unboxing. The appliance comes with a 2 year limited warranty and booklet on how to care for your waffle maker. There are also few waffle recipes to help you get started. It stands a little under 7inches tall, 13inches long and 7 inches wide, “so its not bulking taking up space”. The top of the waffle Iron has an indicator light that turns green when it is ready to be used. I also like the non-stick waffle plates because it will prevent sticking and allows an easy clean up. The plates have extra-deep grids so you can really get a nice size waffles or have a lot of room for toppings. I made waffles and omelets for my house using the waffle maker and we all loved them. Not only was it easy to use but fun to create. My daughter has been using it every day since it arrived to try new waffle iron recipes. I along with my kids rate this waffle iron a 5 out of 5 and will recommend our friends and family to purchase one.

I love that it is a duel waffle maker. It really cuts the time in half. The only downside is, there is no off and on button on it.

If it had a timer I would give 5 stars

Goaliemom35 December 10, 2015

I received the Black & Decker Double Flip Waffle Maker for free through the Walmart Spark Reviewer Program. This was wonderful timing, as I just broke the handle off the flip waffle iron I previously owned. My family loves waffles and the fact that this iron make two at the same time is a great feature and means less waiting. And less waiting with a hungry family is a good thing. We do a lot of camping and this waffle iron is compact enough for us to take with us so we can enjoy waffles for breakfast. The initial set up and preparation was extremely easy. Take out of box, spray with cooking oil spray and plug in. A green light indicates the iron is ready. You just need to pour in the batter, lock the iron, wait 10 seconds and turn iron over. Then repeat for the other side. Waffles are ready in 3 minutes. My only criticism is that there is nothing to indicate the waffles are ready other than setting a separate timer. Most waffle irons I have had in the past had the feature of a green light indicating the waffles were ready. This double waffle iron does not have that luxury. I can understand because of the double feature it is confusing to have the light let you know it is ready. I wish it would have at least a built in timer to indicate when the 3 minutes are up.

Pretty good

riviesmom November 25, 2015

I wa super excited to order this since I haven't had a waffle in literally a decade and as soon as I saw it was a flip waffle iron I figured it would be like the yummy diner waffles. I was kinda right. First off it's not the same size as the big restaurant waffles which was a little disappointing at first until I remembered that I couldn't eat those huge waffles anyway, these are the size of an average paper plate so plenty big still. Pretty easy to use, no power button just basic plug in and unplug to operate. Light on top tells you it's ready to use and heats up fairly quickly. Really simple to use, pour in batter, lock handle, count to ten and then rotate. One thing I didn't like was that it steams the waffles more than anything else so not one of them came out crispy which was a huge disappointment, even cooking them a bit longer doesn't crisp them up since the shallow squares will burn long before the thicker parts will crisp. Maybe try a new recipe next time? If you enjoy waffles just getbit, the double sided plates make two at a time so lots less waiting time, especially if you have a family to feed!

Took some time to figure out cooking 2 waffles at the same time… got better with practice. Just don't get frustrated or you'll send it back. Luckily my wife let me make the waffles.

I have purchased and used this piece of equipment before and had no problem. This particular one was loose; the flipping and waffle iron door were loose.
