After spending some time researching griddles, it became clear that this was the choice and Blackstone did not disappoint! The H style burners heat the cooking surface so evenly and rapidly. The option with the hood serves the dual purpose of protection and heat retention. The cooking surface is a thick durable cast iron that is easy to clean and maintain. The Blackstone’s quality also simply stands head and shoulders above the competition.
We have used it for burgers, cheese steaks, and grilled cheese sandwiches. We absolutely love it so far. The only problem we have had so far was that when it got hot the last time it popped out and twisted like it was warped. After it cooled down it went back. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again.
This is my second grill, my 28 inch stays in the garage. The 22 inch I bought I take camping , the only down fall is that the hood don’t have a strap lock the hood down. The lock down straps would have been nice so the hood would stays closed when put in the grill cover bag. Other than that love it, would recommend to others.
I cannot express how much I love this thing! Just buy one and use it. You'll see! I love cooking breakfast on it. Half hashbrowns crispin up while the other half is sizzlin bacon and eggs. Then carne asada tacos that night. ? I have the mobile one to take camping with the awesome bag that's included. Juuuust wish I was able to get the bigger one for a more permanent grill since I use it so often.
We bought this griddle for camping trips and it did not disappoint. We've had steaks, burgers, vegetables, and several breakfasts on it, and all were are great. Finding the right heat setting is a little tricky, but an awesome product we hope to use for several years.
So. Let's start with why I withheld a star. I purchased this product with the natural gas conversion kit which included instructions which could not be followed because the burners were trapped in the chassis by panels that are riveted together. After drilling the rivets and replacing them with stainless screws and nuts, I was able to complete the conversion. By removing the front panel, access is gained to the gas orifices for replacement. This may also be necessary for burner replacement down the line. On to the seasoning and first cook which went much better than I expected. Nice even heat and a factory seasoning wax which jump started the process. I was very pleased with picture perfect pork chops for my first cook. Nice golden sear and awesome grease management! I can see the need for a shorter tabletop and some nicer griddle spatulas. I am very pleased with this appliance, but feel sorry for those who may have been stymied by gas conversion. Veggies next! Peppers, onions, sausages! Mmm.
Not walmart issues or problems. Like everything Blackstone, this griddle was overpriced, but walmart put a sale price that made it reasonable. What i didn't like about this griddle is the grease channel is too small; 10 minutes with the grinder and its a decent size now. Griddle was shipped with one control knob. Whether Blackstone customer service sends the 2nd one, i have no idea and little hope of a positive resolution - person who i talked to couldn't have been less helpful if she tried. Box was intact and in good shape, and well sealed. So it was a packing mistake at the factory. A butterfly nut serves as an adequate replacement knob. Rated a solid 3 stars. its a griddle, it works, its portable.
So far we have made burgers, pancakes, eggs, bacon and french toast on the Blackstone 22". After getting used to the temperature zones, the food has come out pretty delicious. I'd say overall it is a solid griddle but does have some negatives. First, despite the large cook top size, there is at least 2 inches along the front, one inch in the back and some areas on the sides that do not get any real heat on them so they are pretty much cool zones. If you have a half a pancake sitting on one of those it will barely cook while the other half does. Second, is the weight. With the base and top of it together it is a pretty heavy haul and quiet awkward because one wrong move and the top will separate from the base (it slides together but does not lock in place). So very important to carry it upright and carefully. Third, whoever is in charge of stickers there should be fired tomorrow. The hood had an 8x12 sticker on it that shredded into a million pieces trying to get off and so I had to use a remover solvent on that. Then I noticed there is warning sticker on the burner section and that came off in one pull but left a sticky residue on the front of the unit. Still haven't gotten that off. Despite the frustrations, I am am enjoying learning to cook griddle-style and the family has enjoyed the meals. I would just think for the luxury-item price of this griddle they would take a few more steps to make it more consumer friendly.
The Griddle I received is a piece of junk. They sent me a new igniter I put it on I’m no griddle mechanic Griddle setting in back yard will not work once flames came out and burned hairs off my hand. I paid for a working unit and got a useless griddle .Will never buy another product from Blackstone . Not sure it will make good scrape metal. Don’t buy Blackstone products.
We purchased this griddle as a gift and when it was opened, the griddle top was deeply scratched. This came from Blackstone damaged and sealed up in the box. The paper that covered the griddle top had holes in it where something heavy had been laid on it or more likely dropped on it. I’m very unhappy with Blackstone. It is hard to see in the photos, but added the picture of the paper that covered the griddle top as well.
