I am Greek and I use this in everything that I cook. everyone wants to know what that seasoning is that I use and I usually end up giving it to someone to take home and then having to buy me a new one. I think it's one of the best Greek seasonings ever. If you want a great season that has more oregano to it just add it. It makes everything taste good and I mean everything!
IMO, Cavender's is honestly the perfect blend of herbs and spices for the kitchen; as I have been using it religiously in my cooking (meat mainly), both personally and professionally, since discovery it 20 yrs. ago. In other words, where once I had to add each herb and spice separately, to create the seasoning I wanted, I now use Cavender's (which includes some additional spices), in lieu of; saving me both in time and money, not mention, enhancing my recipes to another level. P.S. I literally refer to this as my "magic" ingredient, lol.
I have used this spice for many years. It is an universal spice. It is a spice that even the novice cook can enhance their recipes. Please try this spice. You can add it to meat in a skillet dish. You can add it to vegetables. This spice you will use again and again. purchase.
Get this Greek seasoning to make your gyros. It has that same taste that you get from eating at a Greek restaurant. 100% recommend. No extra seasoning needed to be added only this, it gives you all the flavor you need and don't forget to add some Greek yogurt to your recipe, you won't regret it. Must buy!
Calendars is a staple at our house!! We use it on everything from grilled meats , veggies %26 salads! It is a must have. It is not spicy hot, it is a Mediterranean spice that can go on anything, very flavorful but not overpowering. Once you try it you'll always want it in your pantry.
So, this is the key ingredient to my "Greek" pita meat. It makes for a great dinner my whole family loves. As I make this review, I'm going to share the recipe with you because frankly, it's really tasty and I think others would like it, too. So grab this great seasoning and try it out! Recipe Ingredients 2 Tablespoons fresh rosemary, Minced 4 teaspoons dried oregano 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper 4 teaspoons greek seasoning like Cavender's 4 lbs flank steak or top sirloin boneless, cut in strips Instructions In a large, resealable bag mix seasonings then add beef strips. Seal bag and shake. Heat skillet on medium high with olive oil. Or you can grill, just omit the oil. Add beef strips and saute or grill for about 10 minutes until cooked to desire doneness. serve sliced.
I use this seasoning all the time and used to keep it a secret, hoping to make people think I was some kind of culinary genius. I'm not. they know I'm not. now I have to share this with everyone. I use it in everything from the scrambled eggs to pot roast to grilled cheese sandwiches. it really makes a significant difference.
Not the be-all and end-all of Greek flavoring (as though there were such a thing as "the" Greek flavor) but I think we all have a notion: Souvlaki marinades, gyros, etc. But this will get you pretty far. If I had one recommendation to the Cavenders it would be to amp up the oregano. My biggest beef with this product is the packaging. To precisely select the dispensing option requires unusual precision and this is wholly unnecessary. Punching the holes in the plastic and cardboard can be done any old which way. Along with an adobo blend and the old reliables (garlic and onion) this is a go-to for flavoring. Like the label says, use it on anything and darn near everything.
Something has changed in the flavor of Cavender's Greek Seasoning. I bought 2 eight ounce boxes to add to my 5 lb tub because the 5 lb bucket my boyfriend bought me before he died tasted too unusually spicy hot from black pepper. I have used Cavender's almost exclusively since 1989 or 90. I know I am right. It never tasted so peppery. But, alas! The smaller container I opened to add to the bucket to take down the pepper is not only peppery, but also has a barely perceptible, but unmistakably new, sweet taste that I cannot identify and furthermore, do not trust. In short, I have a recipe to make my own Greek seasoning. I won't be trusting Cavender's ever again. Time for us to break up. It's been a good run.
Red top came off. Had to use a screwdriver to punch the opening at the top. Since this is clearly an automated manufacturing process, it shows both a lack of setup discipline and quality control. Love the product, though. Will be a nuisance to use.
