I placed this product in a tightly closed, climate-controlled closet in my home where I store my late father's belongings. There used to be a musty smell because of the books, photos, and uniforms dating from the 1950's and 60's. Look what I found today! This product works! The arrow indicates the water level inside the container - I have not altered this in any way. I will purchase more ASAP for every closet.
I would suspect the best use for this is in a bathroom. However, I am using it in the bedroom to cut down on odor from sweating and exhaling my breath throughout the night. In the short time I use this product the odor absorbing crystals have not had a chance to fully harden. But, on my other DampRid products in the house I know it takes about a week before I see results. I like this DampRid because the crystals are in a disposable package you discard and replace with another. 18 oz is overkill for my needs but what the heck as long as it works I am a happy customer.
I put this upstairs in my bedroom. It does such a great job getting rid of damp musty odors. I am so amazed how quickly it worked. I have no musty odors or any other odors.i love this product so much I would buy every container on the shelf.
We had a leak under our sink that we didntWe had a leak under our sink that we didnt know about until we smelled the mildew and by then the wood was saturated. I put two of these under the sink and within a week the smell is gone in the wood was drying up.
Was pleased to find this item at Walmart. I had checked a few hardware and grocery stores before I found it at Walmart. Seems there is a newer dispenser that is taking up shelf space, but it is not charcoal activated. Have been using this in our cottage where we have been battling a musty odor for years. Have taken steps to remediate any moisture, but the mustiness was still in the wood and upholstery. The charcoal is doing the job!
I received the DampRid Moisture Absorber with Activated Charcoal as part of the Wal-Mart Spark Reviewer program. I have used similar products in the past, but not anything with the activated charcoal. It seemed to have a clean scent when i first opened it. I put it in my basement. Despite having a dehumidifier running constantly, it is always damp and humid down there. It is an unfinished basement so I thought it would be a good place to try it out. It has only been down there a couple days and has picked up only a small amount of moisture so far. I think i might try moving it to another location within the basement to see if it will pick up an additional amount of moisture. It seems like it will be a good product, but it needs to have a little more time to get a chance to do its job. I would also maybe try it in a bathroom or a closet as other users have suggested. it might also be a good idea to try it near my cat's litter boxes to see if the charcoal can absorb some of the odor from that area.
This container came broken in the mail, so I would not recommend buying them online. It still absorbed some moisture and I did notice a decrease of a musty smell in the small bathroom where I use it. I think it probably would work great if it had not been broken.
I bought 8 packages of the Activated Charcoal Damp Rid. I purchased it before and it worked great. Got rid of a musty smell in our basement. I believe the charcoal which absorbs the odor works the best for this. The other white particles in the product absorb the moisture. The problem was that 5 of the packages came damaged. The tray that holds the material was bent and at the bottom of the container with the particles poured on top of it that was suppose to be at the top of the container. Leaving the empty space in the bottom to fill with water in the air. Because I still had the empty containers from the original ones I bought I had to open the new containers and use the old trays and pour the particles on top of the tray like it is suppose to be. Had I not already had good containers I would have had to return 5 out of the 8 products. The product itself is very effective. The price is cheaper at Walmart than the the store I purchased the first products originally. But it is a hassle to open the product's seal and dump the particles in the old containers. The quality control has got to be better. For this reason I gave the rating 3 stars. The product itself is the best to get rid of bad odors and moisture in a space. I can't find another product like this with the black charcoal pieces also in it. I hope they keep making this with activated charcoal but make sure the package is put together correctly.
I have used this product for approx. 10 days. Pros: The package was sleek and attractive. I really liked the oval shape. There was a protective cloth over the top for airflow. I tried to pull it off but could not. That makes the product safe around children and pets. Actually removes odors rather than just masking them. Cons: I have to admit I struggled with this product. I have a damp basement with a dehumidifier so I didn't believe that would be a fair test. So, I thought I would use it to control odors. We don't have musty areas, so I selected my kitchen as the test area. It did seem to help slightly reduce the odors (or aromas) from cooking. My main concern is activated charcoal. I have worked with activated charcoal and it gets "used up" quickly. That will probably make this a pricey product. After 10 days, the charcoal pellets have adhered together. Thay are saturated with moisture and no longer effective. I am sorry. I really wanted to rate this product higher.
I purchased 8 of the above, 3 are unusable because all the top part is on the bottom, with make them useless. Three came unpacked in the plastic wrap. I don't know who packaged these but I will not purchased anything from Walmart and I feel I should get a refund for the 3 unusable ones because I payed $4.48 for each one.
