Bought this for my 4 yr old granddaughter and she can't seem to stop playing with it. It's not only fun but educational also, I would recommend it for any child 4 and older
Fun time for kids!
We were debating between this set or the larger non-light up one and we are glad we went with this one. Our 2 1/2 year old daughter loves to play with the set and the drill is easy for her to use with two hands. She loves that it lights up and has two different bits to use! Only complaint would be that the drill is very slow and sometimes it's faster just to use your hands. If they made a larger light up set we would definitely be all over it!
We received this toy for free to review. My three year old had so much fun with it. He loved the drill and spent hours making the various designs that were suggested. This is a great toy for keeping a little one engaged and busy. My almost two year old also played with it. He couldn't quite master the drill but he had fun trying!
Our son turns 4 this month and he loves the Design & Drill BrightWorks that he just got. He loves the colors and the fact he can use the drill just like daddy to put the bolts into the board. The back lighting for the bolts makes it fun to create a pattern just before bedtime so he can turn out the lights and see it glow. We love the fact that he is counting the number of bolts he needs of each color to create patterns plus he is recognizing shapes as he creates them with the bolts. It's also nice that if daddy is working on a home improvement project that our little guy can get his drill out and work to create something too! I can see where this is going to be a favorite toy as he moves from preschool to school age.
This is a great toy by Educational Insights. The company, itself is a great brand that makes high quality toys which make learning fun and all of the items I have bought from the brand have been a hit with my nephew, who is now 6. The design and drill toy is almost like a "Light Bright," that I played with as a child, and comes with a box that lights up from the back and illuminates clear, plastic "screws" that are brightly colored. Teaches fine motor skills along with patterns and is really appealing to children who love tools and working with their hands. The drill has an attachment like a socket wrench. When the drill is put in reverse, the screws can be taken out and rearranged. Very entertaining and fun. This is a toy that gets played with often, even after a year of use. We keep coming back to it!
My son played with this a lot when he received it. I love that it has a lot of the same capabilities as a "real" drill (you can change it to go front or reverse and there are two different bits that can be swapped out) and its pretty cool when it lights up (like us 80s kids and our light brights). I think I might have had more fun practicing my drilling skills as my 3.5 year old son. I'm only giving it 4stars because we've had it for a few weeks and he seems to have gotten bored of it already. I hope to bring this out more to help show my son all the creative capabilities this has. I think he can eventually fall in love with this. Disclaimer: I received this product in exchange for an honest review
The concept is great, and I chose this toy because it reminded me of the awesome Light Bright I used to have when I was a kid. The plus is that the screws aren't as small as the Light Brights, which is great if you have babies roaming around the house. Less of a choking hazard. And it requires using a drill and have the option of 2 different drill bits, which makes kids think a bit more when playing with this toy. The quality of the drill is great - very sturdy and attractive - and the screws are brightly colored and durable. However, the light box felt flimsy and it barely lit up the screws. Even in a nearly dark room, you could hardly tell that the light box was on. And when we accidentally left it on for an hour, the battery was almost used up. I feel like maybe ours was defective? Otherwise, it's a cool product that really promotes fine motor skills and creativity.
Drill is slow and didn't work in reverse I am returning upon opening and trying it out before gifting. It does not sound or look like a drill as advertised.
This toy would be good, but the battery compartment was already defective and had a stripped screw. We opened it as an early Santa gift for the preschool, and it was disappointing. Hopefully I can get the drill replaced and give it another review.
