Chemistry Set

Paula December 7, 2016

This is a Christmas gift for our nephew. He specifically asked us for a Chemisty set and this one seemed perfect for a 8 year old!

Fun, Interactive, Highly Recommend

lizzymu October 27, 2015

Wonderful! My 9-year-old couldn't wait to open the box and begin experimenting. The experiments are easy to follow and use every day household items, which allowed her to begin the science projects immediately after opening the box. Her first science project was with the ice cubes and salt. She followed through on the entire project and documented her results. It was age appropriate, interactive, and fun. Clean-up was easy. I highly recommend.

Great Fun in the Kitchen with this Adorable Chemistry Set!!

Just a Mom October 18, 2015

This is a SUPER adorable chemistry set to introduce the kids to the amazing world of science! My 10 year old daughter grabbed this kit and literally couldn't wait to get started. I was busy doing other things, but she read through the journal/activity book and immediately got to work. She chose experiments that required very little adult supervision and she and her younger (7 year old) sister messed around for the next 2 hours! They did the acids/bases experiment, melted ice cubes with and without salt to observe the difference, and watched food coloring seep through a coffee filter and separate into their individual colors after being mixed together into a black mess in a small amount of water. They were amazed at the findings and my heart warmed as I listened to them discovering things I still remember discovering back in my elementary school days. Pages are already earmarked for the next session. :) The set is sturdy and simple, easy to work with, and clean up is a breeze. Also, the activity journal encourages critical thinking skills and is just a beautiful book where they can record observations, make predictions and more. SO much fun!

Perfect for my 8 year old

Scott Jamison October 23, 2015

My 8 year old daughter loves it. She can do experiments with ordinary things you find around the house and see the results of the experiment. She enjoys filling in the journal too.

You are going to love this chemistry set!!!!!!!!!

TM October 29, 2015

I got the Nancy B's Science Club Stir-It-Up Chemistry Lab & Kitchen Experiments Journal for my curious first grader who loves science. Despite the purple and teal color scheme that looks more appealing to girls, he was dying to try it. The lab equipment appears to be made of plastic without any sharp edges. A 22-page journal is also included. It would be nice if a storage case or reusable bag was included for the equipment. The clear and concise journal is a great addition. The beginning of the book explains what chemists do and the purpose of the equipment. It goes on to define common vocabulary used in chemistry. User tips, fun facts, and several experiments are also included. The explanations are straightforward, perfect for young children. Many parents may not have the time, knowledge, or inclination to explain chemistry to their children and create experiments for them. No worries, it's already been done for you. This is a great resource to teach children experimentation, the art of observation, and how to document their findings through pictures and words. We performed the "Dancing Waters" experiment which demonstrates how temperature affects density. It was a quick, fun activity that he really enjoyed. Other than the equipment from the box, the only other supplies needed were food coloring, water, and a microwave oven. Some of the experiments require items that you probably have in your pantry, while others need items that you can find at the store, but may not necessarily have at home. This is an interesting and fun introduction to chemistry and the scientific method for young children. My son enjoyed it, and said it's now his new favorite toy. (Previously, his favorite toy was the Nancy B's Science Club Microscope and Activity Journal.) He said, "If you try this chemistry set, you are going to love it!!!!!!!!!" (He said I needed to put nine exclamation points in the review.) We received this product in exchange for an honest review.

Simple science fun for 9 year old son.

Marla C. October 17, 2015

We received this as a gift for my 9 year old son. I was a little hesitant that he would not be interested because the colors were a little on the girly side. He didn't seem to care as he was just so excited to do the experiments. He did comment that the glasses were pink, but he put them right on. I love that the kit comes with all the tools you need to run the experiments and the book explains what each tool is for. I had most of the materials in in my house to run the experiments and the clean up is super easy. The book that comes with the kit was fantastic! My son had no interest in reading it as he wanted to go straight to the experiences . I explained to him the importance of reading in order to learn the purpose of the experience and for safety. So, I sat there with him and read the instructions aloud - I was his assistant while he ran the experiments. We had fun working together. He was very proud of what he learned and was eager to show his father who was watching TV sports in the other room. At the end of each experiment there is a fun quiz. My son answered it correctly which proved he actually absorbed the information - yay! I highly recommend this kit for any kid who has an interest in chemistry/science. It was lots of simple science fun for both the child and adult!

Chemistry at its coolest!

Katie Marsico October 25, 2015

I'll admit I was dubious about trying out ANY chemistry kit with my kids--mainly because a) I never was a chemistry whiz myself, and b) my kids are, well . . . kids. But Nancy B's kit is the way to go, even if you're a science novice. The experiments are simple but educational, and the instructions in the lab journal are easy to read. My nine year old (who happened to be home sick and was looking for a diversion) tried out the "Dancing Waters" experiment with me. "Dancing Waters" teaches kids about the connection between molecular activity and water temperature. Sound like a daunting concept? Well, it isn't really, especially when you're having fun with food coloring! What's also nice about the journal is that it includes writing and drawing space for users to record their own observations and provides some basic safety tips that are good practice for experiments that will one day occur in a classroom setting. In addition, the graduated cylinder, beaker, and test tubes are sturdy (a bonus we got to experience firsthand when my three year old interrupted our lab time and knocked a few pieces of equipment on the ground). Also included in the kit are lab glasses, a stirring rod, dropper, funnel, and test tube rack, so kids get a good sense of what a scientist's toolkit truly looks like. While you'll have to provide a few of your own supplies (aka, food dye and the like), there's a good chance that anything that doesn't come with the kit is something you already have in your pantry. In a word, I would highly recommend this Nancy B product--for kids with an interest in science, kids who are a bit leery of science, and everyone in between!

Great Quality! Good Supplement to Homeschool!

5th Grade Homeschool Mom September 16, 2015

We have been using this product for a few weeks with my 10-year old homeschooled 5th graders! They love doing the experiments. Many of them they can do themselves with supervision. They love being hands-on with the equipment. Most materials needed I already had in our home - a few things I needed to buy from the local grocery store. The product pieces are GOOD QUALITY and the experiments in the booklet are well-written and clear. I love that it gives prompts to ask the kids questions and discuss their hypothesis, but also provides the answers and key information. We have been loving spending time as a family getting a hands-on education about science! It has been a great supplement to our textbook learning.

Makes learning fun!

DiDiAnna October 7, 2015

My 10 year old daughter was super excited when the package arrived with this toy and begged me for days to do the experiments with her. Ultimately, when we opened it, I realized that she could - and mostly did - do the experiments in large part by herself. The kid who complains about her homework was all too happy to write down her observations, draw pictures and come up with hypotheses. She loved it and also learned a lot (mom learned too!). Her absolute favorite experiment was putting a flame out with invisible gas! All learning should be fun like this!

Great Starter Set

Cher December 1, 2015

Stir-It-Up Chemistry Lab & Kitchen Experiments Journal is a set that includes test tubes, measuring devices, safety glasses and a journal. There is even a test tube stand included because no scientist should be without a test tube stand! There are activities in the journal that mention an ADULT is required but there are activities as well that kids can do on their own. The activities that require an adult would make a great bonding exercise and teaching experience. You will also need various items/ingredients for the experiments but they all seem pretty standard. There are plenty of spots in the journal to jot down conclusions and questions just like a real scientist would. After your child completed all the experiments in the journal they can then download more experiments to check out or come up with their own! This is a perfect set for any child who loves science or if you want a product to spark some interest in science! I received this product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
