The coffee maker is easy to use, I just followed the included directions. It arrived in a box from the manufacturer, so I guess Walmart just orders it and has the vendor ship it to me. All parts are as described and the fit was great: not loose or tight. No problems with handle or glass nob.
This is perfect for us, we are trying to eliminate plastic items. Works perfectly, and looks retro. I see people complaining about the handle getting hot, it doesn't if you follow directions. Easy to wash. We use 7 scoops of coffee for 8 cups, 7 minute perc, 3 minutes rest.
My first stove-top percolator, so mild learning curve. Once I got the amount of coffee grounds right, I have enjoyed this coffee pot so much. The coffee is delicious, not bitter. The process makes the house smell good and the sound is very pleasant. The pot is very well made and will have a place on my stove for a very long time.
I bought this stovetop percolator as a test comparison to my French Press. I grind my beans fresh, and sometimes use pre-ground coffee, depending on if I want regular of half caf coffee. You do not need to use a filter with this coffee maker as it does a great job keeping the grounds out of your cup. I make enough for two big cups, and there is more than enough room to make more. It takes about ten minutes for it to start percolating, and once you see the water starting to change color you lower the temperature to medium-low and set a timer for seven minutes. Then you take it off the heat and let it set for about two minutes, and you're ready to pour. This pot is very simple to maintain and clean. I use reverse osmosis water so I never worry about lime buildup. Cleaning is simple with hot water and a sponge or bottle brush. Since this is a stovetop/camp percolator, there isn't a heating element to go bad either. This is how our grandparents made coffee, and so did restaurants before drip makers came out. Making coffee this way makes my whole apartment smell like a coffee shop. This takes a little longer to make, but is so simple, and the taste is well worth the wait. I recommend this if you want the best tasting coffee.
Excellent purchase! When the ice storm hit Monroe, Louisiana %26 we loss power; I made it my business to purchase %26 old-fashioned percolator! It is the best decision I could have made! I have a gas stove and now today is the first day of Hurricane season! Come what may, I'll have my coffee.
Bought a cheap percolator and always had grounds in my coffee. I read reviews on this Faberware 8 cup and I'm very impressed. It even makes cheap coffee taste smooth and good. Also, I get no grounds in my coffee. Quality unit.
LOVE this percolator. The only reasons I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is; the first time I ordered it, it came without the lid. Clearly Farberware is not hiring the best candidates for the job. The lid was extremely difficult to remove for the first 4 or 5 uses, then it became usable. I did almost throw it in the trash but sticking with it paid off. Another reason I won't give 5 stars is that there is no 4 to 6 cup stovetop model like this. That would have made this Farberware percolator perfect. So even though it is much bigger and bulkier than I need and the lid...the g-d lid...It is a superior product that makes an incredible cup of coffee. My personal tried and true formula on an electric stove: Fill to 4 C. line, add 2 TBS. Gevalia coarse ground and 2 TBS. Chock Full O'Nuts (I'm poor, okay? and this works FANTASTICALLY). Put basket on pump and put spreader (water diffuser) on top of basket. Snap lid on, turn burner on to number 8 setting. Turn on timer set for 10 mins. Return to stove at timer alarm. Immediately turn burner down to 4 as soon as percolation is seen in the glass knob. Turn on timer for 8 minutes. When timed percolation complete, remove from heat and set timer for 5 minutes (to allow brewed coffee to drain from basket). Remove basket%26spreader before pouring - or you could try not removing, its just what has worked best for me. And I use tongs to remove the spreader and basket. Using the timer and adjusting it to your stove's cooktime is a game changer, you are not tied to the stove watching for water to boil. This product makes an absolutely fantastic cuppa joe!
I wanted this coffee maker because it has no plastic parts. It’s attractive and well made. I find it difficult to assemble the internal parts as well as attaching the lid completely, for example attaching the top firmly into the basket holding the coffee grounds and the lid at the top. The positive side of that is that the basket top and lid are firmly attached when you can get that done. One thing you must have is a paper filter inside the basket to prevent grounds from getting in the coffee.
THE ONE I GOT DOESN'T PERCOLATE WELL AND IT DOESN'T FEEL SAFE TO CLEAN. There's a sharp edge at the top of the pot that could cut your fingers when washing or trying to dry the thing in that area. Alos, the boiling water doesn't percolate thru the stem and up into the basket very fast at all. The percolator felt like a 'dead' device when i heated it up. I think the problem may be that the pump base, aka the 'collector,' is poorly designed and thus restricting water flow. To add insult to injury, after about 5 minutes of boiling the water, I pulled the top off to have a look inside, and the basket was full of black water, not draining down into the pot. i've never had such a poorly designed percolator. If the late S.W. Farber knew what's happened to products that bear his name, he'd likely be rolling over in his grave so to speak. To continue making coffee on the stove, i am now forced to go back to using the glass percolator i have, which i hoped to replace only because it has a plastic percolator stem (the pump if you will) and basket.
I would like to return this. Very dangerous as perking on the stove - heard a loud pop and the top literally exploded on the stove and blew out across kitchen. What to do? Can I return for a refund?
