I've been using the Alta for a couple months now. It tracks my steps and workouts accurately. A big plus is the Alta synchronized with Weight Watchers app, automatically sending data. Longevity of the unit is still to be determined . . . So far it's Great!
I really like my Fitbit I have already lost weight. It has a lot of good things such as tracking calorie intake and outtake based on what you are actually doing verses apps and things like that were your guessing how much you have done in the day. I love the tracking my sleep its interesting to see my sleeping patterns. Some complaints I know it doesn't count all my steps this I know for a fact but nothing is going to be 100% and I would rather it under calculate then over calculate. One of my other things I don't like that sounds like it's a common problem is that it's suppose to tell you what your texts say as you get them it took me a while to figure out how to get it to work and then when I did it will tell me e persons but will just say I have 1 unread message unless I have more then one message then it will tell me what the message is but even knowing who is texting still though to see if it's a text I think I need to look at so that is nice and seeing who is calling
I purchased the Alta a month ago and have thoroughly enjoy it!! I have one complaint however and that's regarding the band!!! It's a terrible system for the amount you pay!!! If you do not get it done up correctly you may loose it!! And it is very difficult to put on by yourself for this reason!! They should all be watch band style!!
It wasn't comfortable through the day and more so when I slept. The unit is much too sensitive so it had me at almost 1000 steps by the time I got to work when I don't walk far to and from my car and take one flight of stairs. So, very inaccurate which obv defeats the purpose. A regular pedometer or a phone app seems to work much better.
So, I had the HR a year ago and loved it! I assumed the Alta would be the same for the exception of the heart rate monitor; however, I am not having a good experience. Yes, charges fast and holds its charge like advertised. Easy to set up and sync with phone and is comfy. (HR was a bit to big for me) Problem I'm having is the step monitor, I wake up in the morning having taken 100+ steps (?) when I drive to work I can jump up 200+ steps (I drive a stick,) and tapping the alarms takes a bunch (like a lot) of hits before it acknowledges the tap/hit. (The hand raise does not always work either.) I have swapped wrists, I have swapped the settings while wearing in the opposite wrists. I would buy the HR, it has the extra sensitivity option to set. Next time I'm paying more. Wishing I could swap it out.
The Alta is very comfortable to wear and much more pleasing to the eye than the Surge but it is not nearly as accurate. I wore it for almost a week and went back to the Surge. If you are looking for a fitbit that kinda keeps up with your steps and reminds you to move, Alta will work for you. If you are setting goals and trying to accomplish them go with the Surge instead!
I purchased this fit bit alta less than a month ago and it will not charge. I emailed the seller but no response. I really enjoyed the fitbit when it was working but now its just a pretty bracelet around my wrist. I would recommend it to a friend if it worked more than three weeks.
I debated for a while about getting a FitBit and finally bit the bullet and got the Alta. Initially I loved it, but now I'm wishing I never wasted my money, for several reasons. #1 - I wanted a band that would track my running without the necessity of using cell phone data for measuring distance. All the reviews I read confirmed that the Alta tracked distance. This is somewhat misleading. It does indeed track distance, but only your overall distance traveled in a day. There is no way to determine how far you walk/run during a particular time frame unless you use the FitBit app, which means you need to use your phone/data. #2 - the bands do get dirty and are almost impossible to keep clean. #3 - there are endless software problems. Since I've had my Alta, with every update to attempt to fix an existing problem, the problem remains and another bug is added. The latest bug prevents the Alta from syncing altogether which means the band is pretty much useless. Since I've been waiting for over four months for one bug to be fixed, I don't hold out much hope that the latest bug will be fixed anytime soon. There are so many other options out there for trackers. I highly recommend you look at another brand.
This would have been my 2nd Alta. But, I could not get this one to come up. I tried rebooting numerous times. It would occasionally show me something when plugged in. I tried everything I could find online to fix it. Finally gave up and returned for a refund. Great customer service at Walmart returns.
It seemed like a great thing at a good price but there were several things that did not work for me. The most important thing was not being able to get the band to close on my wrist. Even with my husbands help, the band would not close. Bad design. When returning it, the sales clerk could not get it to close either. The second thing: the charger cord is way too short. Maybe if you have something on a desk, the cord would be ok but not in my set-up.
