Google and Walmart, your description of device need to include that this version is no longer supported by Nest. I purchased this thermostat hoping to be able to use pin number for security. It doesn't have a lock function.

After two weeks of frustrating emails with Goigle support, I was told our NEST thermostat was out of warranty and just neede to be replaced. I found this deal at Walmart on the newer Google Nest thermostat. It took some effort to install in place of the original NEST thermostat because the new one has a smaller footprint and requires screws in a stud. Once I got it installed, it immediately displayed an E294 error. Thanks to this Google community member's recommendation, https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Thermostats/Nest-thermostat-with-e294-error-R-wire-not-detected/m-p/36034, I got it working. It seems that you have to connect the C wire, but don't check the C wire with the other 4 wires in the Google Home app during the installation process. The Google Home app interface is quite different from the original Nest app, but we figured it out.
