I purchased this for use in a single recipe. I never keep Bay leaves in my pantry. For the price it's a good value and I don't end up throwing much away down the road. I used it in a sauce recipe for canning and it turned out adding a little more flavor to what was already in the recipe.
Amazing quality and fragrance and flavors dishes with beautiful aeromatic bay leave smell and flavor. They are better quality than most, more expensive brand names. I love to use them in stews, soups and other meals that cook low and slow to get all the flavors and aromas to marry,.
If you have not used Great Value Bay Leaves yet, give it a try. I like to use Bay Leaves in all of my home-made soups for an extra flavor. I use it when I make home-made spaghetti/pasta sauce. When I cook pasta for a casserole, I place one bay leave in the water. The more you use it in your cooking, the more uses you find for it.
There's really no need to spend an exorbitant amount of money for bay leaves! These are delicious! I keep a bottle in the pantry for adding to beans and things! These are great!
When I need spices I always buy Great Value brand from Walmart and their Bay Leaves did not disappoint as they were packaged carefully with a very potent smell. Why pay more at other grocery stores when these are a "Great Value".
It's a dried leaf I used it to make homemade chicken noodle soup %26 Marinara sauce!! I can't complain both came out the same as if I'd used a dried bay leaf of another brand!!
Maybe a dozen tiny whole bay leaves, small enough that 3 equaled 1, 3 decent-sized bay leaves, the rest were bits and pieces, fine if used in a spice sachet or bouquet garni, but not floating in your broth. I've bought this several times. I'll pay more next time.
These were mostly crumbles. To use them in a soup or stew you'd never be able to find them to remove them at the end of cooking. In the past there have been some crumbles but I had to throw most of this jar out. I'll be trying a different brand in future.
The bay leaves are more bay crumbs that leaves. Since you are supposed to remove bay leaves from your finished dish, you need to have a complete leaf to start with. The leaves are too wide for the mouth of the jar and crumble upon removing them. I did a pickup order and the jar had a lot of visible crumbs before opening.
I WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE BAY LEAVES IN ONE PIECE. AS SEEMS TO BE THE STANDARD, WHEN ONE ORDERS DRIED BAYLEAVES, THE JAR/BOTTLE IS FILLED WITH BITS AND PIECES OF DRIED BAY LEAF. THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR COOKING.
