Rice is something I make regularly, so I really appreciate a brand that gives me consistent results. This long-grain rice has become one of the staples I always like to keep in my pantry because it cooks evenly, the grains stay separate, and the texture comes out light and fluffy instead of sticky or mushy. One tip that's made a big difference for me is rinsing the rice until the water runs mostly clear before cooking. It only takes a couple of minutes, but it helps remove excess starch and gives the rice a cleaner texture. I use 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water, bring it to a boil, cover it, reduce the heat to low, and let it cook without lifting the lid. Once it's finished, I let it rest for about 10 minutes before fluffing it with a fork. That resting step is simple, but it consistently gives me better results. I don't always add butter or oil, and honestly, this rice still comes out delicious. It's versatile enough to season however you like or enjoy as is. I've served it alongside grilled chicken, beef, seafood, and vegetables, and I've also used it in homemade fried rice, soups, stuffed peppers, casseroles, and rice bowls. Because the grains stay separate, it works well in recipes where texture really matters. The 20-pound bag is an excellent value for anyone who cooks rice often or has a larger household. If you're looking for a dependable everyday long-grain rice that's easy to prepare and delivers consistently good results, this is one I'd gladly recommend and continue buying.
I misjudged how much rice this would be and didn't have a container big enough to hold it all but that was my mistake. This is the better deal, but I might just order the 10-pound next time. I'm eating rice pretty regularly now, but it still seems like a bit too much for my needs. The rice itself is good; I've got no complaints.
easy to make, just put 2 times as much water as rice, add salt; cover pot and bring to a boil, then turn fire down. After 15 minutes, turn fire off. Wait 5 minutes, enjoy.
It is rice. Cooks fine in my Aroma rice cooker. Tastes fine. Texture is fine. Not a whole lot to say about white rice but it's a typical white rice. I do rinse it first before cooking until the water runs clear.
This is a great price for a big bag of rice... I always get the plain white rice in bulk to save on money. This is always clean, nothing to wash out other than starch and when you cook it, it cooks nicely, smells nice, the texture is pleasant when completed. I only cook it in my rice cooker so it is perfect every time. Definitely grab some Great Value rice!
This is the budget item. Not as consistent as my preferred low cost brand, it tends to dryness. However mixed with other grains/lentils, or soaked for an hour before cooking then it works. Definitely don't use this for an event without practicing with it first. Slightly mineralized taste %26 smell, not objectionable nor enticing either. Why I don't rate it lower? It's consistently clean unlike some other brands. The quality is solid. It's not full of rotted or bug eaten leftovers. I do recommend rinsing at least once before cooking for safety.
I'm thankful for this rice! But more than half the bag is like granules in rice! Theres nothing long grain about it!!! The price is great but not the broken pieces
I have bought several smaller bags of rice with no problems. I don't know if it was because the last purchase was a 20 pound bag or just a mistake in the plant but the bag contained what appeared to be rice flour in addition to the rice. I always wash my rice 5 times to remove some starch but for this bag I have added additional rinsings. I will probably buy again because I think it was just a mistake.
I don't like this kind at all. Even with half the water it's mushy, flavorless, soggy and takes forever to rinse. I'm spoiled with basmati and jasmine though so going back to this is no bueno. I was broke so I had to count my pennies, I will wait next time because it was such a bad experience.
I use rice to deliver coconut oil to my 6 dogs and give them each about 1/4 cup with dinner every night. I cook 4.5 cups every Sunday and it lasts through the week. I switched from the Mahatma 20 lb bag to save a few dollars and all 6 of my dogs have struggled to digest the Walmart brand, had diarrhea, or threw it up. It was rinsed, prepared the same, and no difference whatsoever except what was done before I received it. If you know about dogs you know it should not be a problem to switch brands on a pure product such as rice, corn, or green beans and yet this switch creates a huge problem. Throwing away and switching back to Mahatma.
