I do not like onions and hate chopping them even more but some recipies just need onions. These minced onions are my compromise. I get tge onion flavor without the onion texture. These minced onions work for me! The Great Value price is an added benefit.
these flakes really expand into chewy little onion chucks. I put too much in some tomato soup, so go easy, it's much more potent than powder.. perfect for growing a scratch spaghetti sauce profile. I've added it to jar sauce also but you'll have to really hydrate it and cook it down.
These minced onions add so much more flavor than powdered onion. They give stews, soups, and sauces a richer, more natural onion taste without having to chop anything. If you're looking for a better way to season your cooking, this is it. Great Value did an excellent job — I'll always keep this in my kitchen!
sooomeooone couldn't keep their hands off and never bothered to get a new one despite a note placed right on it. So now anyone reading this can take a benefit from the tragic void left behind as I watched my poor little Mincy slip away into the abyss never to be in reach 😭 ever, ever again!!! Oh wait that's right I finally remembered to restock 😂 Yeah it's clearly a desired ingredient in this house.
I can't recommend this spice blend highly enough. It's quickly become my go-to in recipes and as a condiment on all kinds of food. I love that it's salt free and the taste is so savory I don't need to add salt to most of my meals when I use it: I just wish it came in a larger container because i use it up pretty fast. Fortunately the price is excellent too!
You can spend a small fortune buying onions, especially pre-processed ones. Frankly, it is up to you whether it is worth it. Where I live, they don't cotton to onions and garlic in the air so I can only use these flakes. The secret is to shovel them on thick (they are still cheap) and add a touch of water or cooking oil to get them to re-hydrate. Now, being so small, you will never get that marvelous blossoming of an onion turning into a sugary salty delight. The flakes will only give you a backdrop of onion taste, not that crunchy, sugary, crisp delight in a real onion. Again, it is up to you. Just remember that onions like potatoes pose a real problem unless you have specific equipment to deal with those hard objects. That is why I use flakes and not a whole raw onion.
I make a lot of my own seasonings for different recipes for example I grind Chuck roast for burger and add my own seasoning. Sausage also. And I make my own onion dip / soup seasoning and I use minced onions. Also most all my pot / pork roasts get fresh onion and minced onions. This product is affordable for me as a senior on social security. The desired taste is very much a part of my choice to purchase this.
Sometimes when I'm out of onions, this is a great substitute if I'm just wanting a little onion to add to whatever I'm cooking. If you're wanting a bit more you can always measure some and let it sit for a few minutes in a bit of hot water before using, or just add some to the pan while cooking. Very handy!
I like this instead of getting a fresh onion, not using all of the onion and it getting rotten. Normally I mix it into ground beef and let it rehydrate a bit. Tastes the same as using fresh onions. I use it in soups and stews. I find it saves on food waste and is super convenient.
Rather than just a raw or sauteed onion flavor or even the flavor of granulated onion, this dried minced onion imparts a toasted onion flavor similar to the flavor of toasted onion dip mix, which is not what I wanted. However, it is lower in cost than the toasted onion dip mix packets, so if that is the flavor you want, this is a good deal.
