I waited for years to try quinoa, wish I hadn't. It is full of protein and good as the base for a Mediterranean salad, cold and topped with kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, small tomatoes, chopped cukes, and crumbled feta (best price at Costco). Cooks easily in a small rice cooker.
I bought a bag of quinoa years ago from another retailer and found bugs in it. That soured me on the idea of eating quinoa, but decided to try it again since it's so good for you, affordable, and tastes good. This Great Value brand has been perfect every time and very versatile. Good cooked with cut up prunes or goji berries or pineapple or made with broccoli or other vegetables, for example.
I've been eating rice my whole life, so I never had Quinoa. I recently switched rice to this because I did not know rice had so much arsenic in it. This quinoa is delicious, but it has a very strange taste to it. A little research online and found out this is very common in quinoa. I did let it sit in water, and rinse, clean everything good, but still I find this to have a type of taste that tastes like soap or something?. online it says saponin. I added a bunch of seasonings, and salt free chicken broth that made everything taste very similar to the rice that I used to eat. I'm actually really liking this more than rice now, but I prefer the white, red an black version and I found the taste a lot better. It has more of a chewier texture, but I guess it has less of the saponin so that's probably why I find the taste better. I do love both though, I guess I'm still trying to get used to the taste compared to rice. I highly recommend!
Thanks, Walmart always great, Great Value organic white quinoa 32oz is an excellent product. The Great Value quinoa cooks quickly and economically for a wonderful dietary nutritional practice. Also, exceedingly helpful for the vegan diet. Thanks-so-much, from donold
Quinoa used to be a regular menu item until a few years ago, when prices doubled due to shortages because of weather conditions.I like it because it's easy to cook, taking a shorter time like white rice but much more nutritious and with a balanced amino acid profile which is important when not relying on animal products. I have to say, I was impressed with the Great Value brand's quality, it was clean and fresh smelling with a mild flavor when cooked. Great as a side dish or a booster to a main dish, added in at the end of cooking . The resealable bag means you can choose how much you want to use and not worry about what to do with the rest. One caution, you MUST wash it before cooking, it vastly improves the flavor.
Love this since I cannot eat wheat and non gluten items so this works great cooked with dry lentils which can both be cooked together for the same length of time. You can grind it and add to bread or other recipes and add with gluten free oatmeal. Since I try to eat 3 Grains a day I sometimes just increase my serving size of Quinoa from 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup and then eat gluten free oatmeal or some other gluten free grain. Works great with broths and veggies and meats also. You can add it to cookie recipes also.
I switched from rice to quinoa years ago and the great value organic white quinoa cooks up light with a clean, mild flavor. It's easy to prepare and works great for all my lunch and dinner meals. Great budget-friendly price.
This is a replacement. The day before I received a bag with a weak unreadable date stamp. I used a magnifying glass and flashlight and the ink was only partially visible and there was no date. Today's replacement had the date, but there is a one inch sliced type hole present in the center creases of the interior portion of the bag at the bottom. Contents spilled out from this hole. I cannot eat the food because I can't be sure of the purity of it's contents.
This is not the right product. I ordered the multicolored quinoa and no one reached out to me to say that was unavailable or asked about a substitution, but simply brought the wrong kind. I am not going to return these to the store and I expect a refund. You can send someone to pick them up.
You can barely see the expiration date on the bag as if it was purposely removed. I will have to just throw the product out as after filling in container i saw the date. Has never had this happen from walmart
