This worked great for me. I live in Georgia, where the summers are hot and no rain, but also humidity can be high. This grass blend has stood up to the hot Georgia summer! I laid this out in bare spots in my yard in May. I did absolutely nothing to prep the ground just laid it out, tacked it down, so it did not blow away and watered it once. I was fortunate enough to get a lot of rain after this for several weeks so did minimal manual watering. This grass immediately started growing. While it did not come in thick, it did come in quickly and did grow fast. It is great for starting a lawn or grassy area if you have not done any prep work and are on tight budget. Once it fully comes in and I cut it, I will overseed it again, fertilize and allow it to continue to spread. I prefer a natural look so this is perfect for me! It did take several weeks of heavy water before the green matting disappeared from the lawn. It is not as quick as hydroseeding, but it is also very minimal in price compared to having a professional company come out. If you are looking for professional results quickly, I recommend you up your budget and pay for sod. If you were looking to just start some grass growing in bare spots in your yard, and you don’t care strongly about the thickness or look right away, then this is a great option for you easy to use and inexpensive
This product definitely works. I’m glad I gave it a chance rather than jumping at some of the negative reviews. Some tips: keep it wet. You don’t need to completely drench it, just water it once or twice a day. This will prevent it from blowing away and will actually water the seeds so that they do what they are intended to do. We went a step further and spread a Bermuda and rye blend first and then put the sheets on top. We wanted it extra thick. This helped to protect the seeds we spread and kept us on top of watering. In a week, the grass is growing where it never did before, in both shaded and sunny areas. Pics were taken April 9th and April 15th
I put this down to repair a large stretch of my lawn last summer. The process was so easy. After the prep work of removing the patchy old grass down to smooth topsoil, just laying these sheets out and watering them in was simple. After a couple of weeks of insuring the stayed damp we had new grass forming. Now we have a nice carpet that continues to thicken.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A new sizable space in the backyard needed grass. Our backyard is small, fenced, and partially shaded. We also have dogs and kids using this space daily. We needed the easiest and fastest process for new grass. It needed to endure sun, shade, traffic and mixed terrain (top soil/sand). GrowTrax has been a great alternative to loose seed, straw cover, or sod. Laying out the roll is easy and painless. HOWEVER we learned the hard way not to lay out fresh GrowTrax if any measurable wind is in the forecast. Even after lots of watering it does not anchor down for about a week. Don't let wind ruin the product.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I prepared the ground and laid down growtrax just like I have done before in other areas of my lawn but we had a really bad storm 3 days later and it washed it all away. Unfurtunately i lost that roll of grass. But from my other areas in the yard i can confirm this product is great if mother nature doesnt take it all away lol
It works, but there are quite a few more steps involved than the product description indicates. You will need to clear all existing grass, weeds, and other growth, till the soil, and water the soil before laying the growtrax. Keep it moist. 1 week in and I'm seeing new growth.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Putting down the Growtrax was easy, and went well. Unfortunately, we had a heavy rain (not predicted) soon after installing and the majority of the product washed away. I'm going to see if I can salvage any of it tomorrow. I wasn't sure how to rate the product, since it was an act of nature that messed it up, and leaves me with no real way to assess it…
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Didn't have much trouble placing the mat but when it gets wet it's like wet toilet paper and even a moderate wind will wreak havoc with it. Good concept but probably best for small or protected areas.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's been a month and I have watered multiple times a day diligently, but we've got nothing so far. We have had an extremely hot and dry summer so far, but I was very hopeful this would be the fix for the bare spot in my yard.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Husband read directions, watched videos and laid it according to directions for established lawn. 3 weeks later it still looks like I have toilet paper in my lawn. It's horrible. Nothing has grown. And its impossible to keep moist in SC sun. So how are you supposed to get it to germinate. Its a scam. Now I have 2 giant rolls of this junk. My lawn looks worse now than before with all this dried green toilet paper in it. We watered 4x a day 4! And still nothing my water bill for this month was double trying to get this stuff to work. If you live somewhere hot. Don't bother. It's usless.
