I use this to cook my veggie chili, and tvp is not easy to find. I didn't rate the flavor 5 star because tvp doesn't have much, if any, flavor. It takes on the flavor of the dish. This kind is different in that it has caramel color added, to make it look like beef. For me, that doesn't matter but to others it might. The only thing I find difficult is that Walmart doesn't have this in stock every day, so when I see it offered, I buy 2 or 3 to hold me over til they have it again. A 2 lb pkg lasts for over a year so it won't go bad in the meanwhile.
Love it. Its easy to use. Everyone in my family loves it. A great meat substitute. I wish it had more protein, but its very economical, especially when ground beef is so expensive these days. I will buy it again. Its a great staple to use instead of ground beef. I think everybody will like it.
this is by far she best way to stretch any type of ground beef, venison or turkey no matter what ever you're cooking. I have been using for over a year and family hasn't figured it out yet. Can not taste any difference in anything it is used in, chili, speghetti, meat loaf, tacos, hamburgers and even hamburger steak. Mix equal amounts of soy and hot water, let sit for 5 to 10 minutes and add to dish. Wonderful product!
Just used this to make tacos. I followed the recipe on the bag and it was so good. I like it better than ground beef! And the best part is unlike ground meat. It doesn't go bad in the refrigerator. This you can store in your pantry
I like that whatever way you cook it it takes on the flavor of the dish. I like to kinda fry it with squash and onions, also I like with eggs. Hamburger Macaroni using TVP as the hamburger meat. You can use it to make chili, soup , lots of ways.
Hoosier hill is a great company that has many excellent pantry items. The tvp is a great price and of good quality. This is an excellent item for tight budgets and disaster preparedness. The main problem is knowing how to cook it and season it. it can be used as a ground beef substitute and with a little practice makes great patties. TVP is processed food, but the soy is a good quality protein.
This TVP is great—it's easy to rehydrate and it tastes like whatever you flavor it with. I make several different flavored TVP burgers and patties like “grilled burger” flavor, garden veggie, and breakfast sausage patties. I make TVP tacos and bolognaise as well It's a great value for the price and the amount compared to Bob's Red Mill. I love that I can keep it in the pantry with dry goods.
I love my TVP from this company. This is the second time I've ordered it. It's even cheaper here at Walmart than it is at amazon the quality is great will order again and again.
The texture isn't too bad ...made tacos and burgers out of this stuff so far. The flavor can be changed easily depending on the seasonings used and it seems to be pretty versatile. The "carnivores" of my home could tell it wasn't real taco meat but they said it wasn't bad just different, I myself as a vegan really enjoyed it. Plus you get a really good amount for the price paid, I will be buying again.
This was my first time trying textured vegetable protein, I wanted to like it but it was a no go. I prepared it as per the instructions on the side and it looked like wet cat foot. The taste wasn't awful, there really wasn't any strong flavor. I tried a second time with vegetable broth and more spices but it still was off putting. I think it might be good in a chili as an add in, but I can't see it being the main staple in any of my dishes. This stuff has a lot of protein, but I think I'll stick to other plant based proteins for now.
