Jarrow Formulas Methyl Folate 5-MTHF, Supports Brain, Memory, Cardiovascular Health, 400 Mcg, 60 Caps

My homocysteine levels were high because my body cannot process folic acid. After one month on Jarrow methylfolate, my homocysteine level dropped from 23 to 13. I emphasize Jarrow because it is a trusted brand and it works.

I've been taking this for some time and it does the job it's intended for. The capsules are nice and small and it's inexpensive.

I read that synthetic folic acid is not a good source because it is poorly metabolized and large amounts of unmetabolized folic acid might present health risks, in addition to possibly masking vitamin B12 deficiency. Some people may actually be getting too much folic acid since it is frequently added to processed foods. The preferred form is methyl folate (5-methyltetrahydrofolate, 5-MTHF or Quartrefolic). It is best taken in conjunction with vitamin B12 as the two interact. Jarrow has a good reputation, I assume their quality is good. Note: if you don't want to take methyl folate as a separate supplement, Swanson's "High Potency Activated B-Complex -- High Bioavailability Formula" has 800 mcg. of methyl folate in addition to the other B vitamins.

Methyl Folate is an upgrade from the regular folic acid I was prescribed by my Acupuncturist. I had previously researched and tried Jarrow Methyl B12, and found that Jarrow Folate indeed provides better absorption in conjunction with stomach acid and maintaining a good appetite, as well as protein metabolism.

I trust Jarrow quality. I need the methyl formulations, and appreciate the availability of the lower dose (so many are higher, and that is not necessarily a good thing!).

Upon doctor recommendation I am taking this vitamin. I have only been taking it for about 2 1/2 weeks, but I can tell I am beginning to feel better. I haven't noticed any side effects and hope that the longer I take it the better I will feel. In my opinion it takes a month or two before you get the full effects most vitamins, so I cannot give any real review on the product yet.
