I bought 3 as replacements for the ones I bought 10 years ago. They expire in 10years. I like these because they are for both fire and smoke detecting, and do not include the CO detector. Many people with all electric homes don't need that. I do have a gas furnace and water heater, so have a separate CO detector in the hallway where the furnace and water heater are. They have a loud chirp when the battery needs to be changed, and I install them at eye level so that I can change the battery myself. They usually chirp in the middle of the night on a weekend!
I wanted smoke alarms with both ionization and photoelectric sensors, so smoke or heat would be quickly recognized and the Kidde dual Sensor units were one of they few that offer both. I live in a rural area with no fire department, so quick detection of smoke or flame is essential. They mount like any standard smoke detector with included hardware and are reliable. Mine detected my propane torch while soldering, so I'm confident they'll detect a fire with no problem. I have less expensive photoelectric detectors in common areas of my home, but for the furnace room, kitchen, garage, and shop, I trust the Kidde Dual Sensor Smoke Alarms to detect and alert me to any fire event.
It has dual sensors for both a roaring fire or a smoldering start up fire. I love the dual protection. Some fires smolder for awhile before flaming up, so this picks up on that. It also detects a full flame fire. I also like the fact that it uses a 9V battery instead of 2 AA batteries like many alarms now have. The 9V lasts so much longer.
It is a super sensitive alarm that goes off frequently despite no threat of smoke or fire. I have changed out the brand new battery twice and yet it is triggered at least 6 times a day . I am not sure if it is a disfunctional smoke alarm I was sent but otherwise I do believe a fully functional alarm will pick up even the slightest threat.
This is a great smoke alarm! Have used them for years and never had a problem. Love the button that allows you to stop the alarm when you are cooking something that smokes or you burn something. No more standing under it and waving a towel repeatedly to make it stop, over and over again. It is easy to install and includes the brackets needed. Have recommended this smoke alarm to friends and family.
it was easy to install. I hope it will work and be loud enough for my hearing impaired mother in law. I put it right outside her bedroom door, so she has some peace of mind. Thankfully, we haven't had the opportunity to hear it yet.
Smoke alarms are good for 10 years then need to be replaced as ionization sensors can fail. WalMart offered exactly what we were looking for - battery operated, dual sensor alarms. Our local fire department strongly recommends dual sensor smoke alarms; dual sensors capture both light and heavy smoke. They also recommend Kidde over other brands. We've used the Kidde brand over 40 years, Kidde stands behind their product.
Purchased 17 of these. Within six months one of them failed (i.e. false alarming). Within 24 months another had failed (i.e. false alarming). Both were replaced by Kidde free of charge under warranty. In my business we look at failure rates. That is what we call a "Dangerous Detected" failure rate of 11%. But we don't know what the "Dangerous Undetected" failure rate is. Pretty sketchy QA/QC in my estimation for a life-saving device.
Had three of the batteries that were completely dead out of eight alarms from the very start. Had to purchase batteries just to get them working. Batteries were Gold Peak Kidde batteries with a date of 07-2028. It goes to show you that you can't trust dates on batteries
No wiring provided in the box. And device was manufactured more than 2 years ago. Why pay for a device with 2 years out of 10 year life already gone? Yes, I could have bought a wiring adapter. But that's not what makes sense in this case. I have to return the product.
