Learning Resources Word Whiz Electronic Flash Card Reading Game Ages 5 and up

This little gadget educational toy is pretty cool. It doesn't sport the colorful edgy updated today's "computer-y" themes & screens most things like this boast. It's kinda old school with the graphics. What's best about this to me is the wordage used. It doesn't just ask u about 'cat, ball, red, blue, two, one etc' type words. It makes the kid think & expands their vocabulary. I'm most definitely a parent who wants my kids to have a vastly expanded vocab. No, it's not collegiate level words but but but, it does offer better variety of words than traditional gadgets for this age group. I love it. Of course it takes some getting used to using by the child because it isn't all colorful & ooooh, whoa, wow, look at the pretty colors, cool pictures. It gets right down to what its supposed to do......teach! I gave it a 4 in meets expectations b/c I thought it would allow downloading & saving of your place or assignments to help remember where u need the most study. However, I still like it. It's straight to the point & gives knowledge of more than text, email, & social media shorthand made up acronyms. Old fashioned edu-ma-cation! That's what's up! Price is good too. Run tell dat & get this while you're runnin'. Your kid could benefit. Well, most kids who don't already know these words. Toodly boodly***

I am a teacher and grandma who bought this product for my second grade granddaughter who is struggling w reading. The Word Whiz helps beginning readers review and practice reading words. It helps children who struggle with the different vowel sounds. It uses Dolch words/common sight words which are found in 80% of reading. The Word Whiz is also great for school classroom centers. Kids are into technology and this fits the bill. Enjoy while u learn.

This is a great little product for my 6 year old! Keeps him busy on the long car rides and helps him sound out words that he may not be familiar with. The product works great for the time that I had it.

The Word Whiz Electronic Flash Card device provides an opportunity to complete a word using the choices available. There are three levels of difficulty, making it fun for learners on any level, from young readers up to adult. It's fun to use but challenging. It teaches the basics of phonics and spelling. I would highly recommend this item for a parent with a reluctant reader in the family.

I ordered this product through the Spark Reviewer program for my 2nd grader to practice her phonics. Since purchasing this product, her enthusiasm for sounding out words to get a perfect score which appears on the screen at the end of the level. It also displays the correct letter when an incorrect letter is chosen. This is a great tool for learning because it is motivational without being boring. She has already improved her reading level, no doubt because of the added practice she is getting from using this product. I recommend it to anyone who has a child struggling with spelling, kids will love it's compact ready to travel size.

My 6 year old grandson loves playing with his Word Wiz and it has helped him in school where i wasn't able to. It's easy for him to use and the battery life is good as well

My boys are 5 and they are very good readers. I thought this would be something cool in a old school kind of way. Yeah- My bad. Old technology is not really cool anymore, probably because technology is so awesome and amazing these days when it comes to educational learning. There are great apps out there that are way better than this. The first time I had them use it, we were in a restaurant. This kept their attention for about 15 minutes while we waited for their food to arrive. Once the food came, the toy went away and they had little interest to play this again later. The screen is pretty basic and it is easy to use. The different levels work well. I liked the fact that it also included letter and sound blends. The size is nice, as you can stick it in your bag to pull out at any time. The screen, however, is not really user friendly. The letters are hard to see in some light and some of the letters are hard to differentiate. It takes 3 AAA batteries. I shuts itself off after a few minutes of non-use, which is a nice battery-saving perk.

I like this product because it's not super complex to use,though you have to supervise the child. This works well if you Sit with them and help them sound the letters out. The other aspect I'm not find of is the timer. For the 5 year old she is just guessing on not of the words and maybe doing some memorization because of the timer. This is good for a starter toy for decoding words.

I was given Learning Resources Word Whiz Electronic flash card for review and rating purposes, and I must say I am not thrilled with it. Learning Resources Word Whiz Electronic flash card for ages 5-8 is has a great concept, but needs A NEW DESIGN. The concept is what I expected. There are three levels. The first level is basic three-letter words. Level 2 is four-letter words. Level three is four-letter words with special sounds. The quality is less than what I expected. While the "game" is to see how many fill-in-the-blanks you can choose correctly in a sixty-second time span, there is nothing that indicates that time is running. There is only a sound when you switch between levels. On certain levels it makes a tic-tock sound when starting, but not always. Additionally, it is EXTREEMLY difficult to read the screen. Some of the lights aren't as bright as the others in the "bars." And of course, similar to cheap calculator screens, if the light hits it just right, all the "bars" seem as though they are equally lit. The lettering isn't like the one pictured. Because portions of the screen do not light at all. Also, Children with any sort of vision issues will have a hard time with this. Overall, I love the concept yet hate the cheap non readable design. (It’s a dud)

Poor quality. The digital letter are hard to distinguish a from o from g. The s looks like a five, the i and l looks the same. All what is does is confuse kids. Please don't buy, waste of money
