I've only had it a few weeks, but I slice 6-8 apples a day, and so far, it's doing great. I love the slightly curved design on the bottom, which makes sure you can cut all the way through the skin at the bottom of the apple, instead of leaving it connected like my old slicer did because it was flat on the bottom.
This apple cutter is by far the best I have had so far! pros: The metal is high quality and cuts the Apple and removes the core far easier than other devices I have had. cons: no matter what, you still do need to push down from an elevated center of gravity. what I mean is, when my kids want to use this. they stand in the stool at the dining table with the apple and cutting board at their waist (on the table), not at the counter (even I do slice from downward bend on counter). It needs downward force from the hip for easiest use, but it is still the fastest way to cut up an apple. so don't let that deter you! notes: the core comes out and the kids make an apple crown - I have had an apple peeler and core remover - but that set up and process is time consuming and only worth going that route if you are canning a bunch of apples and don't want the skin (but we love that fiber!!) we use it so often I was worried about it going dull- as our other apple cutters have - and we cutt the apple- quick wash- and it doesn't even make it back into the cabinet before we're using it again. I like the elevated handles for big apples too!
This apple slicer is definitely worth its money. Our problem with plastic handled slicers were that they would always break if pushed too hard but with this one it's very sturdy and don't have to worry about that at all. Very sharp and very easy to use. Very happy with my purchase and I'll probably be getting another one just to have.
This heavy duty Apple chopper is just what this big family of 8 ordered! We like apples. We like to chop them and all too often our family has been heartbroken by the weak plastic handles that hold the blades. NOT TODAY!!! This baby's solid metal construction makes me wonder… May this be our LAST Apple chopper we will ever need to buy?!
I really like this apple slicer because I have had many before. The handles broke off, but this is the first really good solid slicer I have had it's made of steel that is really tough and sharp. It goes right through the hardest of apples that I purchased as a test. Very happy with my purchase
This is impressive in its heft and solidity. The only way I can imagine it would quit us is if the blades break apart where they're fastened to the core - not that I expect it to. The handles are just solid. I like the 12 pieces. It's hard to share 8 apple slices between 3 children. Also, when cooking, I had to cut the 8ths into multiple slices; one cut will take these down to 24ths. It's quite sharp. Having the extra 4 blades does require more force to cut down through the apple. That's unavoidable.
I bought this 100% stainless steel apple slicer because I had problems with the ones that had plastic handles in the past breaking. I have been very pleased with this apple slicer I have been able to cut apples without any problems and it is very easy to clean too.
Why in the world did I wait so long to buy an apple slicer! I eat an apple almost every day, I take the time to core it and slice it by hand. no it takes less than 5 seconds to have a perfectly sluced and cored apple. The side handles are are perfect and the stainless steel is nice, has a perfect weight to it.
After purchasing apple corers/slicers that broke when applying too much pressure, I gave up on plastic and went metal. To say the least, this corer is totally metal, in the literal and figurative sense. It's sharp, fits large apples, has large handles, and is easy to manipulate even with wonky, misshapen apples. The blades have sharpness comparable to a new paring knife. Purchased for: coring and slicing Granny Smith apples to freeze and use in smoothies.
I had one with 'plastic' around it that broke in the middle of using it. Number one reason for ordering this one, works great and I know it will not break, love the security of it. The blades are sharp and do the job intended.
