Lodge Cast Iron 12" Charcoal Camping Round Kickoff Grill

At first, I was not sure what the Lodge 12 Cast Iron Kickoff Grill was exactly. Now that I have one, I am glad that I do. My husband and I have recently begun to camp more often and this item comes in very handy and is much more compact that a traditional small charcoal grill. The grill is two pieces. The bottom is the base with short legs. It has a lip around the edge so that you can add the charcoal. Light the charcoal and layer the base. Then add the top cover which is the grilling area. It has grates which are great for juices to flow and also so that you get those great grill marks on the food you are cooking. The grill also comes with handles so that you can move the top part on and off as needed when it is hot. I have found that this is much nicer to use then the offered grills at a camp ground. The quality is great. The product is real cast iron that has already been seasoned and is pretty heavy. The grill is fairly easy to clean once it cools off. Overall this is a great item to have for camping if you like the charcoal taste. It does not take up too much space and it does not take much to clean up. I really love this grill as I have found that I am very happy with most products that I own made by Lodge.

This cool little portable grill is versatile, and can be used a couple different ways. It looks like a Dutch oven with a slotted bottom, so you can put the coals on the flat surface, put the pot over it with the grill side up, and Bob's your uncle! Or you can put the charcoal in the pot (on the cement or other nonflammable surface) put the flat part on top, and use it like a griddle. It has detachable handles for convenience, and the grill is well made and sturdy. I can see this getting used a lot during tailgating season, or on camping trips.

With Fishing Season here, I wanted to audition the Lodge 12 inch Round Cast Iron "Kickoff Grill" for a weekend fishing/camping trip. Yes, it's heavy, but for a Lifetime of Portable Quality Grilling, It Is Worth It! I Seared two of the Best Rib Eyes I have ever eaten on this Baby, along with Baked Potatoes and Asparagus! We Ate Like Kings!! To adjust the draft, simply twist the Hook and Carry Handles Clockwise to Increase Draft and Counte3r Clockwise to Decrease Draft. Simple Pimple! Clean Up and Re-Seasoning is EZ!

can't wait for kickoff of NFL season. Well soon be tail-gaiting with this cast-iron , bad boy. See pic's has enclosed handles! How cool is that. We use charcoal with our brats and are happy campers. I am sure anyone would love this was to clean. Get the recommended pads too.

Im a huge fan of Lodge cast iron and have a cabinet full. I even have skillets that my grandmother left me! I love this grill and use it all the time. I use and then let cool. I only use hardwood charcoal so I throw the old ashes (with gloves on) over my yard as a light fertilizer. I lightly, lightly apply it and there are no chemicals in the charcoal that I use so this is a great way to get value from the ash. I wipe down my grill with a damp rag to clean and the wipe completely dry, NEVER use any kind of soap and lightly wipe with vegetable oil and then wipe to remove excess, I store in my garage and I e left this grill will outlast me. Known for quality products that last a lifetime you cannot go wrong buying a genuine Lodge product, I love the fact that these re made in Tennessee! I do use a chimney for my charcoal and let it set for about 20 mins to get the grill good and hot. Meat is wonderful on this grill and Ive even cooked pork and beans in a small skillet on it. Love it and HIGHLY recommend!

First let me say I love this only slightly less than I love my children. I have grilled every day since I got it. But you must know this: it is very heavy, it is cast iron after all, so if you have problems lifting and no one to help you you may want to try something else. For me it is wonderful. It has a large enough surface to grill possibly 7 good sized burgers and endless hotdogs too. It could easily hold 3 very large steaks. I use and highly recommend a charcoal starter tower. That way you won't need lighter fluid and the briquettes are ready to dump on the grill in about 20-30 minutes. The grill cooks beautifully and the flavor of the food is lovely. I have grilled everything from pineapple to whole potatoes with everything cooked to perfection. But if you think this review is being written by an expert grill master you would be wrong. I was the person squirting half a can of lighter fluid on a kettle grill and adding more and more charcoal in a poor attempt to keep a fire going long enough to cook something but not with this lodge grill. It takes very little charcoal to cook and it burns for a long time. I thought it would be very hard to clean but it is not. Yes, it takes a bit of work but all grills do. I would recommend this to everyone especially those of you who are grill challenged like me. You won't be sorry.

love the durability and flexibility with this grill. if you are ready to make the commitment to cast iron and love to cook outdoors, this is a great addition. this is heirloom quality. the challenge of cast iron, of course, is the weight. we're taking it camping along with our cast iron pans. Can't wait!

I love my 12" Lodge Cast Iron grill. I used it on my back porch without cinder blocks. I like how the base is made with angled grill lines to elevate and hold my charcoal. I used regular (olive oil spray coats the Lodge Cast Iron Kick Off Grill well) before putting it on the base. I like how the rim holds the ash, just enough from the amount I put in the chimney starter. I like that the two hook carry handles are thick and firm for handling and I'm able to rotate the grill as needed for airflow when cooking. I took the hook and carry handles off while grilling and kept my potholders close. I did not need to adjust the draft as I was cooking, but nice that I can if I have to. I fixed it the way I wanted it after hot charcoal was poured on the base. I also added a few pieces of pecan wood for the smokiness flavor. It worked great. I made hamburgers on my 12" Lodge Cast Iron Grill Memorial Day 2021. I know I can also put a square cast iron skillet on top of the domed grill grate so I will have an easy clean up. "Use it, then clean it." After it cooled I used my grill brush to sweep away any remaining ash, hand wash with hot water and a nylon brush or scrubber to clean. Dry promptly  and spray with a thin layer of olive oil spray before putting away. This Lodge Cast Iron Kickoff Grill is 31.10 pounds!! Gorgeous. The Lodge Cast Iron Kickoff Grill is a great travel grill off to a friends house, ocean and lake. When there is an electric outage due to weather, I now have the power to make coffee and cook. As always Lodge does it again, what a great grill! This thing is built like all other Lodge products high quality and built to last a lifetime. In fact, I'm sure my Great Grandchildren will be fighting over this grill after I'm gone. I followed the instructions to light my charcoal using a chimney, and the adding the top and allowing 10 minutes for it to heat. The grill surface is so heavy that the grill holds the heat when you add the cold meat giving a perfect seer. The surface of the grill heats well and very evenly and is a joy to cook on. Some friends have said the food sticks so let me give you a tip “hot grill cold oil food no stick” So just heat the grill and brush with oil, it will be fine, and the food will never stick again. Lastly let me say you will love this grill. Please remember with all Cast Iron products follow the use and care instructions and this grill, as all other Lodge cast iron will last forever. Cast iron is easy to care for with just a few simple steps, so take the time to do them and your cast iron will be around forever. Enjoy! Highly recommended Great Price!

Extremely heavy and well build, but it is made of pure cast iron. Cooks evenly and fast. I will be using this more than I use the large grill. Great grill for small cook outs, or for a single person. Because it's cast iron you need to be very careful as it gets extremely hot. Only problem I have with it is, that there is no top to cover (I made a cover to put on top), but other than that it's great. I certainly will be using this one on a regular basic.
